"Oroonoko, or The Royal Slave", by Aphra Behn for my Eng 206: Classical and Romantic Literature
About an African American Prince who's king basically claims Oro's lover as his own, placing her in his harem, and Oro can do nothing because he must remain loyal to his kingdom =/

"I, Vampire" by Michael Romkey.
I was just browsing my local bookstore when it caught my eye...all i had to do was read the back cover and i knew i had to read it, and i don't think there's too many people who could put it down after reading the first few pages. It's not a typical vampire novel...that's all i'll say. And, of course i always keep the "Complete Hitchhikers Guide" next to me for a good laugh.

It is so far man, and it's only like 70 pages long, but it was written in 1688, or rather the version we're studying is. So it's not the easiest story to understand on the first go. Here's an excerpt: "'Twill be imagined Oroonoko stayed not long before he made his second visit, nor, considering his quality, not much longer before he told her he adored her. I have often heard him say that he admired by what strange inspiration he came to talk things so soft and passionate who never knew love, nor was used to the conversation of women; but (to use his own words) he said, most happily some new and till then unkown power instructed his heart and tongue in the language of love, and at the same time, in favor of him, inspired Imoida with a sense of his passion." Whew...quite a mouthful
