Default About them currency advertisers...

Well, it's pretty clear that what's being done right now to thwart people who advertise currency sites isn't working too well. (OnRPG administration didn't seem to do much when everyone thought treasuretrooper was the bee's knees, either) Moderators ban them, but they'll come back on a new IP (delicious dynamic IP, courtesy of dial-up, programs, or ISP manipulation) on new accounts to bump threads and make new ones. I've noticed olaph's been working to get some of them IP banned, but I suppose that is something only an adminstrator could do, which we seem to not have very many of.

Speaking of people we haven't quite got enough of, there doesn't seem to be enough moderators
(Oh no, deliberate disregard for what FabianN said not to do! Read on, it's more than just "we need more mods"). There are 67 members + 1xx guests on right now, but not a single one is a moderator. Even when there is a moderator around, they don't seem to get around to all of the threads that have popped up, likely because they're bogged down with more important things, like the other flagged posts they have to check, the real world, being Saint-tastic in the General forum, and cleaning their refridgerators. I guess that results in what happens with advertisement threads: The mods don't bother to delete or edit the threads and are satisfied with having gamerlover of msvff banned for another day or two.

What good is just banning the advertiser? The thread and links are still there, people still see it, all it really does is keep the spammer from bumping the thread
(which he rarely needs to do because people will go and post "go away" and unknowingly help the advertisement by bumping it).

The report this post to a moderator button could also use some improvement. People see the tiny red caution sign and probably don't notice that it flags posts for moderators to see. Perhaps the image for the button could be modded into some sort of gigantic "CLICK ME TO FLAG THIS POST FOR A MODERATOR" button.

I suggested that the mods should edit the threads so that they say "this site sucks" or "this site scammed me out of my money". Converting advertisements into negative word of mouth is not only hilarious but... hilarious. D: Of course, that also has the same problem as locking or deleting since the spammer will be back. Still, it is pretty funny.

BooNeZ suggested that (Gunz Onrpg Clans) there be a restriction imposed on posting links, that people should have 50+ posts before they can post a link. A great idea, but this would probably require a technical administrator to mod the forum to implement such a restriction and make sure there aren't any ways to get around the restriction.

If anyone else has any ideas or comments, go nuts and post them, and maybe an administrator will show up and do something! D:

Well, I am on a large amount, and it should say I am on all the time since I always have a page of Onrpg open. As for you saying we do not have enough moderators, that may be true, but really it is only some moderators can moderate certain forums. And to the people advertising those currency sites we have been banning them and IP banning. I will edit this in a bit with the rest of my comment, first I have some important things to do.
Also to your comment saying we do not delete or edit the topics for advertising. In the MMORPG section, I personally have deleted 30+ topics and banned at least 10 members. Do not say that we are not doing it because we are.

I agree completely.

As to what Boonzes suggested, we have already thought of that, (the mod found by our good security Twitch) but we never got any word from the admins on it. We think it is a good idea to do that.

Chances of a admin posting here... unlikely, but I did already post a link in the staff section concerning common things to this.

Instead of having more, full blown mods, there could be a "group" of trustworthy people that are always on to just look after one section, and they coulld report to a mod.

Look at your post, on the side bar, near the bottom.
See the caution sign? The triangle with a red outline?
That is the report button. Click on that and the post will be reported to the mods.

Anyway, the thing about editing advert posts to say the site sucks is very, very un-professional, and won't be done. We don't edit the posts to keep it as evidence, but we DO soft-delete them, which basicly means that the staff can still view it, but no one else can.
I don't know where you get the idea that we don't delete posts, but still ban the offenders. I would like to see where that is happening.

And no need to get sassy about disreguarding the rules, which in fact, you didn't. I belive this is the post that you mean? In it, if you read it, you can see quite clearly that it says to not ask about becoming a mod yourself, but if you feel that a section needs more moding, to please contact the staff about the matter.

I agree that the report button needs to be more prominent, and easier to spot.

Another thing that I will be pressing for once gabe comes back is an "welcome message" system where all new users get a PM sent to them that explains the forum, gives them the rules, points them to the FAQ, ect.

Well I guess it would work, but regular members can do the same thing. I mean with the report button all this group would do is click the report button. The next step up would be temp banning which I do not see happening.

As Lothia said, this is currently being discussed in the Staff's Corner.

Funny? LOL funny. Professional? No. I would do it, but it would make it seem as if I don't take my position seriously enough.
Still pretty funny.

Like Lothia, I agree.

Currently, if we see the IP address of a spammer turn up again after we banned his first account, the moderator will contact an Admin and request an IP ban.
