Hybrid is probably the most pain in the *** way to go, because not only are you poorer than the pures, but you are weaker than them and any other class that steps in your way. But once you get level 70, find a priest partner, and manage to have some good 3rd job skills, you will get a lot more money and will think it was worth it. Do go hybrid if you wanna take a long risk and plan on getting beyond level 70.

i had a hyrbid DK for a while, but found it was a waste of time.
since usually you end up only using one of them (spear or polearm) when training and eventually find one you like more and pretty much give up the other one, it's more beneficial to go with one type and then add some left-over points into attacks for the other. you also lose out on the full-power of the 3rd job when going hybrid, because you cannot max all of one mastery. the 4th job has no spear or polearm defined attacks, so for a long time will you be relying on your 3rd job attacks. BUT...if you really want to go hybrid, go ahead.

Since you take the relevant skills too, you are just as strong as regular Polearm user. (And slightly stronger than respective Spear user- Polearms are a bit stronger because the slashes happen more often and have greater range- perfect with slash blast.) Then you skip iron wall, and take a couple of points from PA booster, and use these points to max Spear mastery and get some Spear booster. And in 3rd job you get the the 3times3 attack for spear, and only use that one. Since you have all the mastery and Spear Buster is the optimal attack, and FA doesn't work with 3rd job skills, you're just as strong as regular Spear user, and quite a bit stronger than Polearm user, as both Polearm Buster and Polearm Dragon Fury are inferior to Spear Burster. At NO point in this build you are weaker than a regular spearman of either kind. The only problem is your boosters aren't maxed, so you need to recast them more often, but that's not too much of a difference.
