I've only started yesterday myself, and there's still a lot of things that I haven't looked into. Just playing along for a bit, learning new thngs along the way. Curently I have a Lvl 13 Mage, with a Lvl 2 Dragon Hatchling (seems kind of useless atm. Also got a Lvl 1 Pony, but I wanted a Dragon... so I levelled the Dragon when I got the egg).

However, there's one feature that I was "drawn into" by another player; so far it turned out alright. It's the Guardian System --- I became his Apprentice. If I make it to Lvl 20 within 10 days, I get some good weapon, and he gets Reputation points --- there's items in the game that you buy for Reputation points instead of gold. So, I make it to lvl 20 in time, and we both get something out of it --- he's actually helped me along a bit, and I have someone to PM if I have questions, which is always nice. Guardians aren't required to be the ultimate experts on Last Chaos, of course --- they are not assigned by the publisher or something like that. Just normal players; everyone can be Guardian if he meets the level requirement.

He also asked me not to join a guild, and join his when I'm lvl 20. I don't even know whether "lvl 20" is a requirement imposed by the game, or whether they use the guardian system as a "testbed" for potential members, but I never planned to join the first guild that happens to come along anyway. Whether or not I'll join HIS remains to be seen; so far the guys I met are ok :-)

Why am I describing this in such detail? At it's core, the guardian system is probably a pretty neat idea to encourage higher level characters to help out newbies. So if someone asks you whether you want to be his apprentice... I don't think there's much of a risk for you. You can, of course, just select a guardian from the public list... which I wouldn't have done since I didn't know about this system :-) Besides, having someone actually talk to you is a good start :-) And, of course, it's a random thing... but if someone DOES ask you, I'd advise to accept, unless you immediately dislike him :-)

Compared to Flyff, Last Chaos is much less populated, and players seem to mind their own business even more. I've only seen two towns so far, but it's very obvious that the starting town is the one where people set up shops --- the 2nd twon is basically empty. I don't know the third yet, maybe I should just check it out for fun to see if it's the meeting place for the hgihlevels.

Concerning levels... they are totally secret. My guardian knows my level, but that's about it. Even the monsters don't have levels displayed; they use coloring to show the level (or strength or whatever) relative to you --- don't attack green or blue ones (they are too low), go for white or yellowish ones. Red doesn't seem to be a good idea; don't know whether this changes at higher levels.

Other than that... it's the same as with all games: learning by doing.

i would just like to add on to this, the guardian system has a major flaw in it for the guardian. Always be carfull who is your apprentice, because if that person decides to quit the game or just doesnt like the character he has and delets it, you keep that apprentice for the 10 days like normal, but here is the flaw, see if you dont reach lvl 20 in that 10 days it shows on the guardian record of fails and passes. and the more people that just dont reach lvl 20 basicly screw you because if someone sees you have 5 fails with no passes they wont want to pick you because they think your not a good guardian
