They need to do what Blizzard does and release an Automatic trojan on your computer. Detecting any 3rd party, script running programs.

how is it that jagex can detect bots, but not the person in runescape massacre in fally?

They did detect it. It was the middle of the night, so only a few tech guys were up. Closing the server would have made everyone in combat lose all their items. They can not lock accounts while the user is still on it. Locking accounts only allows them to not log back in.
They were trying to fix the bug so that people wouldn't get pissed.

Dude,thats what they made the new engine for.Even though it caused a hell of a lag,but got rid of a bunch of autoers.

That massacre was a glitch caused by a new update, not a macro. Jagex can detect glitches, but this was a trickier scenario then just banning a member who was macroing. There was too much at stake for too many people to do a mass ban, or to shut down the entire server. They needed to find a new approach on the situation.

i honestly dont think jagex can do too much about bots, obviously they can block the ones with tell tale signs like bein hurt constantly by rock golems but i doubt they could pick up on every single bot in the game, if they could they would be out of the game already...
