No, the problem with students not wanting to stay in school and learn is that it's not interesting for them, and you.
You, and everyone else have been fed pre-chewed pieces of information and taught to simply regurgitate it. You've been denied a real education and you don't know how it is to go through a real education. So you make assumptions that it's going to be the same as public school, because you don't know. Thing is, it's no way like public school. You don't know the sweetness that the real fruits of knowledge brings you. Truth be told I was very much like every other teenager when I was in public school. I didn't give a flying ****. Not one bit. I was bored and uninterested in what the teachers had to say. So much so that my best grade was a C. I'm not dumb. Those that know me know that, and I did actully teach myself stuff during that last school year of mine. I, at the age of 12 taught myself, on my own and in my spare time, anything and everything about genetics that there was to know. 1.5 months into it and I was reading books that were intended for University level students learning about genetics. Surely not a sign that I am lacking of intelligence. It was simply not what the teachers were teaching. What they were teaching, I didn't care because it wasn't interesting for me. Two months after I'm taken out of school I am in full control of my education. I do the work when I want, where I want, and how I want. And I'm not slacking off either. I'm learning, and learning more in less time than all everyone back in school. And many of you seem to think that dropping out means not going to college. Completely wrong. First, the problems that you'd have with highschool do not exist in college. You are actually taught there. I am going to be going to a college that the students regularly get hired out before they even graduate into 50k jobs. The last time I was in a public school class room as a student was at the end of 6th grade. Do you need to put an effort into it? Yes. But you need to do the same at school. But self-teaching requires a lot less effort from you than public schooling. And you are correct that there is some discrimination that surrounds homeschooling. But not at all in the way you think. The discrimination is that homeschoolers get jobs and get into colleges easier. As I keep saying, in public schools you are force fed pre-chewed pieces of information and all you do with that is regurgitate it. But, while public schools work that way, the rest of the world doesn't. Not even in the U.S. In the real world you need to be active in learning it yourself. People do not want to, and will not force it down your throat. Homes choolers are proficient in working like that. They are raised like that. Colleges scramble to get homeschoolers simply because they will be easy to teach and will not have to adapt to a new life. Employers pick them up because, again, easy to teach the new skills needed for the job(there's always that "training" session). They have not simply regurgitating information, something that unless you are a translator or someone with a similar job, is not wanted.

What you got to remember Fabian is not everyone learns the same way as you. Some can read books and learn the subjects on their own, and other need a helping hand such as a teacher to either guide them visually or just help them along.
Although I somehow think you already know this and I hope you don't completely disctiminate on the entire public school system because even you have to admit that it does serve a certain purpose. Of course your entire school experience depends upon the teachers you have as well as the courses that are offered at that school. At my school we had what was called, Tri-Valley ROP, Regional Occupation Program. Where by taking these classes they directly related to a certain occupation. We had Information Technology, Child Care, Nursing, ect.. This made school a lot more interesting and was able to not only help me decide what I want to do, but also taught me a lot. As for everything else it's just there. Hell even in college you need to take those general education courses. The only difference is college is on a higher level than highschool. Perhaps highschool is just what you make of it. |

Really, Croix, get a G.E.D. If you think you are not learning anything that is, or go for homeschooling. And FabianN, thanks for making me feel stupid and used for going to a public school.

Fabian, what I'm trying to get across is that most kids won't be as motivated as others to learn if they didn't have school. I know that for a fact, because I myself wouldn't. I would just lounge around all day, go out and have fun, but hardly even study or anything like that. It may have worked for you, but it doesn't for other people. And if we didn't need Public schools, then don't you think they'd all be gone by now? I mean, all they really do is suck up the states money in your point of view, so why have them? Seriously, think about it. Do you really believe that Public schools have no point? They help certain people get by to get an education, and most people can't get homeschooling because their families have jobs.
