In his defense, he did say that he wasn't a programmer.
I was trying to point out that it takes more than ideas get a team together. Learn a trade! Show it off! If you can impress the right people, you'll have your team. (no, imagination is not a trade)

in my experience from working with programmers in highschoo(I help my old teacher teach programming on my days off)l 99% don't understand proper naming conventions, procedures, or code organization is...non-existent. and when you try to help them out by telling them how to do/ fix it they give me lip telling me that it wont work like that. Eg. I was marking assignments for mid term and i had to take marks off all of the projects because they put code in headers, when i gave them back they were all mad because the lost so many marks. I agree that you learn from your mistakes, i don't know if its just my experience, but they don't even get far enough to learn a decent amount to change you should at least get a working copy of the game before you give up that way you can at least correct the mistakes on your next project. trust me my first project we used if statements for everything because we didn't think of using switches. Sometimes a flame is necessary. You have to admit most of the people posting that they want to make a game a. know nothing about the process b. have no talent to offer c.pirates wanting ti use illegal licenses or copywritten material ( Naruto Online, Pokemon Online...etc ) Don't understand that an mmo is more complicated then a single player with networking properties. An mmo should not be your first game project it'll discourage you with its power to overwhelm. I speak from experience. a shooter with networking 1 month work part time. |

I admit this guy probably is one of the 99% but not all are so don't judge people like me by our cover. Take sourceforge for example there are a lot of your programmers there and yet the ones i work with can do all that . So for future references don't think young people can't program. (Note: I'm not defending him) So next time don't say looser high schooler just say looser wanna be programmer huh?A good language for those people who can't code organize is Python python forces the indent and such. So that might be a good suggestion for your old teacher |

I think we're getting off topic a little
should be a new thread but I know things like Python and VB are good teaching tools they get you thinking like a programmer should logically. But when I was in high school I learned Turing which is a learning tool, I'm still mad they didn't teach me c or c++ I felt like i was cheated on my courses. New programmers should use things like that in grade 9 to learn. Grade 10 you should learn to compile C and 11-12 you should be using C++. That is how i would organize a programming course in high school.I said 99% because most can't but some can. I've never looked at any code on sourceforge so I can't comment on its organization. seeing variable names like jimmy and billybob or seemingly random sequences letters and number without a comment to explain what they mean is annoying because you have to look through the code to find out what they do, or have to look for the variable declaration if you are debugging suffix is your friend

Alas we get off topic a lot here, I plan to start learning C before high school (not by myself) I taught myself python and php but i don't feel up to teaching myself another language. So summer classes on C might do some good because i doubt that the school i am going to has Computer Science so i have to visit it and other school to see if theres anything in my district that does have CS. Every one who i know nave variables relative to what its about so more than 1 developer can work on it.

Err, could we get back on topic?
![]() Personally, I don't think this would succeed, but that doesn't mean that there is a 100% chance of failing. Just let him recruit his sprite artist (Though I doubt anyone would join, for obvious reasons). Really though, anyone can have ideas. Like Kevinboyz stated, even a hobo could have the best ideas. I suggest going to http://www.w3schools.com/ and starting off with something REALLY easy like HTML. Then move on to JavaScript, VB, Java, C++, etc. ![]() P.S. Read the stickies please. ^^ |
