What does /B/ mean? - General

I have still yet to understand what /B/ ment. Can some one simply tell me what it means? I know there is a website... but still.

/b/ = random board on 4chan.

Ok, theres the site 4chan.
On the site there are various boards with different themes. A anime one, one with cars, ect.

Each one is in thier own directory, and the directory for the random board on 4chan is b, so when people talk about that board, instead of saying "The random board on 4chan", you can simply say /b/

and people begin to find or dish out things they have of what the title is suggested to find.

Well, moot is the webmaster, and he decided what the directorys shall be, but using the directorys to name the various boards, don't konw who thought that up.
But once you know the network, it's actully alot easier that way.
