Default C++ useful for game making?

I was doing a C++ tutorial and having fun with it,but my primary purpose of learning it was the ability to make video games. I assume I will need to know blender right?Can you create people with blender?

You don't need to know blender or anything other than a programming language and a few APIs to make games. Then again, if you know how to draw and model stuff too, that's a big help, because that means you won't need an artist.

Basically, C++ allows you to write the code which'll display things that you make in blender. So while you yourself to make the game don't need to use blender, or any other model program, if you have no one making the models for your game, it's going to be a game with players as boxes or some other non-complex model. (Granted, you'll still have floors and everything else like that that are simple geometric shapes, because you can draw those with code easily).

So yes, you can create 'people' or models of people with blender, and animate them but you won't get them into your game unless you know ALOT of C++ and a graphics API (DirectX/OpenGL). For now, if you want to make games, the best thing to do is concentrate on getting really good at either art or programming. If you want to make a game solo, go for programming, because you'll be the only one making it. A game can get started and sort of live without models (and you can get free ones). If you want to make a game with someone else, my advice is to be a modeler. There's a severe lack of those guys around.

Soooo, yeah. Hope that helps. If not, just ask your next question right here, and I'll try to answer it, best I can

I would LOVE being a modeler. I have been reading a C++ tutorial. It is a bit dry. Of course, I am only at identifiers and asigning propertys

unsigned ini;

is a quick exampe. From what I have read unsigned and signed identifiers have diffrent ranges. In this case this one takes on the negative range

I have not read much. Only two sections. It doesn't take a year to learn C++ though. Blender might be my type of thing. I have just finished a trig class. I could use the law of sines/cosines to find sides and angles that arent clear. I'm not sure if the program does that for you though. I got an "A" in Art Drawing 1. I can draw in 3d decently.

It doesn't take a year to "know" it takes year to really KNOW C++ if you would of learned it for a year you would have known theres really no good way to explain it.

Well, trig is definitely extremely useful in 2D and 3D graphics programming (IE, it's impossible to make a game without it), I'm not so sure about drawing. But yeah, if you want to be a modeler, that's for sure a good way to go. C++ is a bit dry, and you can't really do anything useful with it until you've learned alot of crap.

Most aspects of creating games are pretty "dry". Modeling, Programming, Writing (mostly technical), etc. Games are fun to play, not create. There's really nothing exciting about it. But many people (myself included) enjoy the different aspects of creation regardless.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that creating games isn't very fun. As you say, many people enjoy it. The act of creation by itself is fun. That's half the fun of an RPG, creating a character that you can be proud of. Creating a game is the same thing, just on a much higher level. So I think yes, it is fun.

I wasn't saying that I find it dull, or that most people on the "Developers Forums" would either. Still, there is a serious difference between creating a character and creating a game.

Designing a game is fun. I love dreaming up the layout of the city for X-Shift, but the tedious task of carving out each building or writing the collision detection in the code...not as fun. Still, there are others that enjoy those aspects as well (my world designers and programmers for example). But if anyone tries to tell you that there is no tedium in creating a game is either lying or they've never actually created one.

Fair enough. Sorry, I misunderstood. I agree with you totally that there are some parts of the process which are just... ugh
