Hmm, I think you meant "without a gun". However, I did once read about a guy who shot himself without bullets too.

He wanted to play a prank and make is friends think he shot himself. He loaded his pistol with blanks, invited his friends over, put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger... don't try this at home. Needless to say, his friends were quite impressed.
