Default 20th Century Fox Scores Rights to Sims Film

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1

Fox brings 'SIMS' to bigscreen
Film will be a live-action version

Report from Variety.com:

20th Century Fox has acquired feature rights to the life simulation computer game "The SIMS" from Electronic Arts, and has set project up with Fox-based John Davis.

The five-year-old franchise is the best selling PC game in history, with worldwide sales topping 85 million, bringing in over $1.6 billion. Pic will be a live-action version.

Steve Asbell is overseeing the project for Fox with SIMS Studio head Rod Humble managing the creative property for Electronic Arts. Brian Lynch will script; story is under wraps with talent yet to be named.

"'The SIMS has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Humble. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."

Davis' most recent projects include "Norbit," "When A Stranger Calls," and "Eragon."

Lynch scripted and helmed upcoming "Big Helium Dog," and penned "Scary Movie 3," and is managed by Benderspink.

Report from Gamasutra:

According to a new report, Electronic Arts' best-selling franchise The Sims will be getting a live action film treatment from 20th Century Fox, with Eragon and Norbit producer John Davis at the helm.

Variety's website is reporting that the Fox has picked up the feature rights to Will Wright's massive hit franchise, and will be producing the live action film under producer Davis and screenwriter Brian Lynch.

Lynch has previously scripted his own feature length film, Big Helium Dog, which has yet to see release, and was the writer for the Spike:Asylum series of comic books based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff TV series Angel.

Electronic Arts' Sims studio head Rod Humble is said to be managing the conversion. He told Variety, "
The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it. Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."

Nothing further of the film has yet been announced, including plot details or any proposed cast.

Gonna be so awesome watching some chick change clothes, check her mail, and then catch herself on fire and die trying to make popcorn. Sims movie will rock!

Agreed. The GAME is fun, because the USER controls what happens...I don't know how a movie could work. Ever.

Edit: Oh, this is by the idiot who made "When A Stranger Calls"...that was almost worth the $4.50...the popcorn I smelled on the way in was better than that movie.
