The level 20 cap was designed for casual players who could not invest much time to play. 20 was an acceptable level, one can reach it easily and continue to have fun with high-level content in a matter of days / weeks. This did away with the leveling grind, of just roaming around killing monsters to gain XP and higher levels just to be leet. Its business model also makes Guild Wars unique. Buy it once, no further investment needed. You can even play now, stop for a couple of months, and jump right back in afterwards. No monthly fees mean no pressure to play the game to make the most of what you paid for. What's more, the developers often listen to the player and integrate reasonable suggestions for improvements and fun events, all at no additional charge to the players. This makes it attractive to those who can't afford (or refuse to pay) a monthly subscription. PVE was designed to prepare one for PVP, thus all armor and weapons have specific baseline limits (i.e. AL 80 for warriors, 60 for magic-users, etc.), with certain bonuses. PVP is a level playing field: everybody's level 20, all armor levels are profession-specific, and all weapons are baseline-damage specific too. It will all then depend on the 8 skills that you bring. In effect, the makers of Guild Wars wanted to stress skills over time spent (grind). A lot of people have become so used to the usual MMORPG's like WOW and its predecessors Everquest, etc. that when they try Guild Wars, they won't find it to their liking. The funny thing is, Guild Wars doesn't even tout itself as an MMORPG, yet it gets compared to every MMO out there. But guess what? It gets awards at being a great MMORPG, when it isn't even one ![]() on topic -- to the OP: GW 2 comes out in two years. We all know it's going to be the "end of the line" for GW in a sense, when majority of the players will migrate to GW2. What do you do with the time, from now until it's curtains for GW? Sit around and mope that GW is gonna end? Or play and enjoy it while it lasts?

u can transfer ur titles to GW2 so I don't see a huge problem. And here is how I c GW: u basically lvl crazy in mmo to get to end lvl to enjoy ur 'success'. GW provides that in an instant. This is the world where every1 achieved that 'leet' status. And what do u do once u reach max lvl in any mmo? u pvp all the time and complain that either ur class sux or that other class is too uber. And then comes patches and adjusts here and there to basically make the game crappy. While in GW, u can b creative and counter other builds and make ur own builds. It doesn't have that massive feeling as other mmos do but, like beldeti mentioned; 'Guild Wars doesn't even tout itself as an MMORPG, yet it gets compared to every MMO out there. But guess what? It gets awards at being a great MMORPG, when it isn't even one'.

GW2 will be out 2 years from now. For it to be accessible (and thus profitable), it has to be able to run on earlier PC's. Consider GW1's minimum requirements as against the PC standards when it was released. We might get an inkling of their philosophy then. GW1 = 2005, minimum specs at PIII 800 ghz, 32mb video, 2656mb ram. What were standard-level computers' specs back in 2005? higher than the stated GW1's minimum, yes? GW2 = 2009, so maybe it'll be today's PC standards as the minimum system requirement. Maybe we'll know by 2008, when the beta testing will start. And thus ladies and germs, I have two years to go saving up for my upgrade for GW2

I truly hope that in GW2 they will keep the element of strategy of 8 skills or so available. That and the sheer number of skills makes way for tons of combinations...half the fun is making a build that works great and that you can improve upon! I'm glad that they're sticking with the instances, as that will remove a lot of polys of unwanted characters (presumably fairly high detailed) who could ruin the gameplay, and get rid of the annoying people who sit and ks. I'm really excited for GW2 and GW:EN, since I've beat all campaigns, and am currently ABing for fun. I just hope GWEN is quite cheap, since I'll be scrimping in university this fall

But yes, there'll be plenty of instanced areas too. Also excited for GWEN, and saving up for it... plus don't forget the preorder kit! I'm buying it for the cool new bonus weapons
