i just found out about it and i don't know why they would do it... it's making me mad every one knows that any thing 2 (everquest 2, ect) ruins the first game and make people quit playing. just wanna hear ur thoughts on this issue, also the new expansion pack looks coolie ^^

1. While considered a success both commercially and by those who play it, the developers felt there was still a lot to be desired in making GW the way it should be. Making changes to the mechanics of GW would have required a major overhaul of the system, its engine, along with game balances, etc. that would have upset the whole thing. And while the 6-month release per campaign (not expansions) brought fresh ideas and new ways to play, there always was much to be balanced. And of course you had to cater to both players who will play it for the first time and to the veterans. And to use their term, it felt "bloated" in that the tutorial areas kept getting bigger and bigger (compare how long it took you to finish Pre-Searing Ascalon, as compared to Shing Jea Island and Istan Island when you made a character native to these respective campaigns). And they also had to make sure there was plenty of content for those who would rather bring their old character over to the new continent/campaign. So in a sense, what they decided to do was to mix the game's strengths, fix its faults, redo the semi-annual campaign schedule and a number of the game's key features (level cap, instancing, etc), improve whatever it is they feel needed to be fixed, and make it into a new game -- GW2. And leave GW1 as it is for now, as a lot of players still enjoy it for its own merits. 2. While GW2 is being developed (for release by 2009), we are being given the first true expansion, Eye of the North, maybe by August or September this year. As such, it will provide the link to GW2, introducing us to the new playable races and maybe mechanics, etc. The expansion will also feature a Hall of Monuments, where you can "enshrine" your GW character (no indication yet how many). Then when GW2 comes along and you make an account and link it to your GW1 account, your character from GW2 can view (and maybe use) the items, minipets, etc that you have on that GW1 character. This is the developers' way of honoring all the blood, sweat and tears that we invested on our GW1 characters. That's the extent to how far we can "bring over" our beloved characters from GW1 to GW2. Having said that, it's a lot compared to other games, like you can't bring over your character from Diablo 1 to Diablo 2; nor from NWN 1 to NWN 2. At this stage, members of other GW forums which I frequent have been vocal about either their support or dismay at GW2. While I am a bit apprehensive about how things will change from what we've grown to love at GW (i.e. level 20 cap, instancing), I have faith that they won't do too badly with GW2. And they have officially declared that they will continue to keep GW1 servers open so long as there are people who'll play it, like those GW1 players who won't migrate to GW2. my 2 cents: No game (and nothing) lasts forever. Graphical updates, engine updates, compatibility, people's preferences, what's currently "in", everything plays a factor. And as 2009 is still a year and a half away, I'll play GW for the meantime. I look forward eagerly to Eye of the North, and I have so much left to do in GW. And I believe I'll still be playing for as long as they'll keep the servers open sorry for the long post Until then, go Guild Wars!

![]() But seriously, I mean this. I believe they created an online game which dares to be different. I also believe they will NOT do the same as with other games and that GW 2 will be a completely new generation game. Beldeti: I completely agree with you. Good post! |

Also i hope it's atleast till lvl75 and they kill the mesmer class and make place for a samurai or a summoner:P (or the opposite of ranger ! Gunner!) and that it's not all about questing but you can do other things then PvP and quest...

Well I for one cannot wait for GW2. I'm completely sick of GW, (The only few things I have left to do, hard mode and titles, aren't fun at all) and am looking forward to a fresh start.
Hopefully GWEN will at least give me a month or so more of GW gaming. Then the long wait for GW2.

And yes, ANet dares to be different, so it'll come as no surprise if they do things unprecedented! Darksin, level cap at GW2 is being considered at 100... they are even toying with the idea of having no level cap at all ![]() And I'm more of what the weapon's stats are than how it looks. I've crafted a clone of Rago's Flame Staff (cost me less than 20k) rather than buy the original which sold at 80k upwards at the time. I sure as heck am not bringing an icy weapon in the Shiverpeaks But you do have a point Darksin, weapon skins are a bit limited in number. I'd have thought the green "unique" weapons have unique skins, but sadly only a few do (the Forgotten Sword, for example)... Like all the Forgotten Bows at end of Nightfall all look like Ivory Bows, and I'm not a fan of how it looks. Probably it's a technical thing, the way GW is designed it can only accommodate so much However, I think making Prophecies and Factions armor like Nightfall (in that they can be upgraded with insignias) is a step in the right direction of providing more options for how your characters will look like. No longer will rangers suffer the "twigs-and-leaves" look just for that extra energy, nor will monks bear with tattooed armor for the added energy too. Mix and match! Already I've seen great armor combinations and people have been bringing out their FoW armor because armor has become more flexible. Oh, and watch the comment on "killing" the mesmer class lest you get Diversioned by those who like it They are different from the fighter, magic-user, thief, healer, etc. archetypes, and can be difficult to learn how to play properly. Their contribution to combat is not that visible too, it's easier to notice an elementalist calling down flaming rocks from the sky or your life bar going up due to a monk's heal than a mesmer's Backfire on an enemy monk. But mind you, they excel at PVP and Hard Mode

But yeah, GW is a pretty crap game. So boring after a week. You do the same thing over and over. Takes like one day to get max level with those long shyt quests, then you get to do guild wars, YAY! But for the rest of the game... There is ahrdly any armour in the game.. through out the whole game you only change armour once. Then all you do for the bloody whole game is do boring crappy guild wars.. Its not eve worth the $20 or whatever dollars to get the game. |
