Welcome to GW!

For your ranger, it's best to start out at Prophecies, the first Campaign. This is because the Prophecies offers lots of free skills for you to tinker your build with, plus it's newbie-friendly. The storyline is a good introduction to the whole GW universe, what with Guild Wars: Eye of the North coming out by the third quarter this year. There still are lots of people playing Prophecies, and most are helpful to newbies (which we all are when we start, yes?).

As you finish your ranger in Prophecies, you can then move him to Nightfall and Factions. I'd advise doing it that way so you can get Heroes in Nightfall early on which can help you in a fix.

Ritualists can only be created in Factions, so you start there by default. But as you have all chapters, you can freely cross over when you're able to.

Definetly start with Prophecies because it wont overwhelm you with choices of classes and skills when you're first starting out. Also, it is one of the longer of the 3 campaigns and has plenty of great starter quests.

Factions is without-out-a-doubt the quickest way to get max level, but you have to buy all your skills... and since you're new to the game, you most likely won't know what works well and what doesn't. Prophecies gives you skills for your professions during it's quests, so you can experiment with those.

Prophecies is probably your best bet, unless you want to make a Assassin/Ritualist/Dervish/Paragon. Then you don't have much of a choice.
