Hi ya how are we all?
![]() I am a passionate computer user i cant say i spend endless hours on the Net playing games but i would like to create one as its a profession i want to get into . I have been looking at purchasing Realm crafter and was wondering if anyone has used or has any input if this is a really good engine for creating a mmo's such as runescape (which i used to play but got over its repetitiveness). I have a strong passion in creating a great game that all will love, but need to now where to begin? Any suggestions on easy to use but still highly officiant Engines Also any software that you believe is good for 3d modeling. Thanks allot. ![]() |

If you want to get in to game design learn C++. Dont go for these premade engines. Realm crafter is ok i guess, but unless you have the more expensive one with the source, your game is going to pretty much look and feel like all the other realm crafter games out there.

Your Welcome, im pretty sure there our great tuts in onrpg "General Programming" section.
http://www.onrpg.com/boards/5964.html (Tutorials: Programming) (Basically All the Known programming Languages at your Finger Tips). I would learn C++ (including C#) and Visual Basics and then if you still feel you need a engine, get Realmcrafter. Atleast you can take games a further step in the future with knowing the right languages. |

First off, if this is your first game, STOP!!! you'll only hurt yourself in the end.
In the bussiness of good quality game development, you find teams of people working together for the same goal, a great game. You have a person dedicated to modelling, to coding, and to mapping. You sound like you want to do it all. . . which won't get you anywhere in mmo's, the most you'll be able to do is an og (online game). If you're primarily intrested in game design, I would suggest finding a game with a mapping engine, like Unreal or Half-Life, and make a couple maps. It helps to get you understanding the whole nature of game design. If you're primarily into the idea of Development of code, you'll need a primer in C++, which could take you the better part of a year to fully learn and understand. At which point, I would suggest you run out and purchase a DirectX or OpenGL programing book. (I'm reading Begginning Programming, Second Edition). For modelling, well, whip out that sketch book and get working on concept, then use that to practice modelling in a 3d editor. Finnally, you have the texture artists. This is the art of creating the 2d art that fills the worlds of gaming. ---------------- Now, if you're still reading, my recomendation is to start with a simple single player game. After that, move onto multiplayer. Finnally, if you still have the nerve, get cracking on an mmo and start recruiting a team, cause you'll never get an mmo going without one. note: If you're wanting to make a browser based mmo like Runescape, you'll need to learn Java, and no editor out their exists yet for makeing java mmo's.

If you want to create a simple MMO by yourself that no one will really care to play then ream crafter is the way to go.
