Beautiful Katamari jilts PS3 at the altar, elopes with Wii

At the end of last month, we reported on a rumor that Beautiful Katamari would dump the PlayStation 3 and move over to the Wii. Those rumors have now been confirmed and Namco's cult roll 'em up sequel is officially headed to both the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360. Do you remember the show Animaniacs? Do you remember on that show, one of the characters was a skeleton who had terrible things happen to him constantly? Sony is that skeleton right now.

The idea of Katamari hitting the Wii was never a shocker and is sure to be an excellent addition to the console's library, but I doubt Sony is as happy as Nintendo right now. As per the original rumor, Namco has cited programming issues as the reason why the PS3 is getting left out in the cold. Presumeably, all that Blu-ray was too much for one little Katamari to handle. Given Sony's awful run of luck lately, news like this has become less and less of a surprise and at this rate, anything that can go wrong for the poor company is going wrong. Hopefully in ten years, if the PS3 completes its marathon as Sony claims, this calamitous era will be but a footnote. Right now, however, it still sucks to be Sony. It really, really sucks.

I honestly thought 3rd parties abandoning the PS3 to the Wii was a little overblown...

Oh how I've been wrong.

Serves Sony right for stuffing in a Blu-Ray.We seriously don't care about a Blu-Ray,the hardware would be enough for great graphics.

Blu-ray has nothing to do with this.

The creators simply saw how many 360 and Wii units were/are sold so, they switched over. Who wouldn't? They want money from a console that has alot of consumers. Only serious people bought the PS3.

They just make up some sad lie to make Sony seem like the bad guy.

What would be bad is if KH3 doesn't have a console switch over.
It'd suck for me to have to wait til i get 550$ just to buy a ps3 and KH3.

It's Sony's fault for letting things get out of hand. they're refusing things from customer needs and sticking to they're doom.

that Blue-ray excuse makes no sense to me... however simple programming errors do.

And personally I could give a shit less about katamari. I thought that game sucked on ice. Crappy controls and stupid gameplay. Even if I had a Wii i wouldn't buy it..

Plus one to Darc for blaming Blu-ray, this has nothing to do with this at all. Namco made a pretty big mistake, the PS3 is now $100 cheaper and they're going to sell better. Namco's second mistake was trying to convince people that this is a full retail game and not something you'd buy on XBLA.

If you want a great experiance with this series play the first two games, all the other ones after that are bullshit money grabs.

Maybe but making it official 1 day after the $100 price drop was stupid. Think about it, if PS3 can hit catch up to the 360 by the time this game comes out thats more profit they loss. Maybe they will do the right thing and release the game over PSN for the price it deserves.....$5.

People, it's not blue-ray, but the cell processors that are causing this. The cell chips, while they are quite fast, it is a lot different to code for, requiring about 20% more code.
The more code a game needs, the more it costs to make. The more it costs to make, the less people will make games simply because it's too expensive.

Anyway, I can see this being an awesome game on the Wii. It's one thats been built for motion control from day one.
