I want to make a new Ranger character that in his future will focus on Beastmastery.

I want to know what skills I would need to make a pretty good build and one that could make my companion tough.

I plan to be a Ranger/Mesmer and maybe have a Stalker, Lynx, Wolf or Bear pet.
Well any tips would be great.

besides.. beastmastery sucks.. pets have bad AI

In the future, you could do Beast Mastery. I figure you would do either R/Ritualist to cast Weapon spells on your pet and to Spirit harass, or do R/Monk to use Smiting skills with Expertise and for Smiting Enchantments. R/A might work if you want to Condition->KD.

For now though, stick with a bow.

Pet AI isn't too bad. Basically your pet attacks whoever you attack, or whatever aggros you first. The problem is that pets just don't have any good combinations with any other professions.

I'm curious about how a Ranger with pet would work with Vigorous Spirit/Live Vicariously now.

besides, if YOU want to try something out... YOU have to make the build.. not just ask others for a build

and I did gave you a tip: Dont use it, I have tried it out myself, and it didnt work out
