60 GB being taken out to the pasture
According to SCEE president David Reeves, the now-cheaper 60GB PS3 will be sold out in the US by the end of the month. Once they're gone? No more. Ever. All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July. Once that happens, he says, there'll be just the 80GB models. Which cost $599. So if you want in on some of that PS3 price-cut action, you'd best get cracking. This announcement does little but raise a whole load of questions. Why announce such a short-term price-cut? Why is the president of SCE Europe saying this? Why are Europe and Australia still receiving models being phased out in the US? How long will the "limited edition" 80GB MotorStorm bundle last? Who knows. If you need me, I'll be out the back, scratching my head. Source Sony you bunch of bastards. They are ****ing with us! |

The Sony PS3 has been claimed to be the Mercedes of consoles. Well Sony is having a blowout sale. They're getting rid of all the older models by dropping the price to make room for the newer ones. That's not bullshit, that's life.
As I posted in the other thread. How are they skrewing with you? They want to get rid off all the old consoles to get rid of the new. Sure, they're not calling it a blowout, but they didn't call it a price cut either. That was a term coined by none other than the audience that follow Sony. This is in fact a blowout sale that everyone thought would be a long term pricecut. Sony didn't skrew you over. You skrewed you over by jumping to conclusions. |

Sony has been screwing us over since they began making consoles so this doesn't surprise me in the least. This is not a pricedrop this is a marketing gimmick, plain and simple. Stuff like this only serves to hurt sony, and if the gaming department of sony keeps losing the company money as a whole (like how the cruddy sales and r and d costs killed all of Spiderman 3 profit) then the rest of the company will lash out. The TV, DVD, and stereo division looks at the the gaming division as the lil brother that keeps spoiling things for them. You can only be king for so long, eventually your head gets so big the crown doesn't fit and that time is now for sony. KZ2, and MGS4 won't save them, it takes more than that. Besides Those 2 games don't appeal to the masses just the fans of the series. I love Sony fanboys and gals , they will cling to the legs of all the sony products and defend them to the last but the truth is Sony doesn't carer about them and never will, only their money.

Yes, its true the 60GB is being replaced by the 80GB model that will sell at $499. I understand that the current 80GB system they have announced is $599 but thats because it comes with a copy of Motorstorm and another controller. After the limited edition bundles sell out a normal 80GB will take the place as the one and final SKU.
This all the information I picked up from a source at E3. To anwser Luke's question on kotaku about still selling the 60GB model in Europe is very simple. They have not found a sure fire way to drop the price there without losing insane amounts of money. Now if you want to talk about getting screwed over, please see General.....you will know the topic when you see it. |
