I've noticed there's a pretty significant amount of people on these boards that think they're "emo".
whoever says they're "emo" here, is clearly is not considering you can't even be emo. It's a music genre. Despite how many people base their lives off it, it does not make you emo. emo means emotive hardcore, or emotively charged hardcore punk. You cannot BE a genre of music. YOU AREN'T EMO. BEING EMO DOESN'T EXIST. You're poseurs, to the core. MCR, not emo, the used, not emo, fallout boy, not emo. Hawthorne Heights, not emo. Rites of spring, emo. Listen to them if you've never heard of them. Flame away, say what you want, I don't care. |

The meaning of words can change. The word 'gay' used to mean happy, now it means 'homosexual', and it's a way to say something sucks. So a person can be emo. The concept of Emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this:
1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie) 2. Guy finds out, so he listens to faggy emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands". 3. Now an emo guy, he meets Emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie) 4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team. 5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues. This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about! Most of those bands you named (except Fallout Boy) are indeed emo.
And if I can be metal, you can be emo. Also, I can't believe some crappy emo band named themselves after a work from the most influential composer of the 20th Century; Igor Stravinsky. That's ghey.

You CANNOT be metal. You can be a metalhead, sure. But you're sure as hell not metal. You're as clueless as the rest of these people who think they're emo. |

Hawthorne isn't even that mainstream... and Francesco is metal.

You do realize that emo is a slang term, and as such can hold different meanings in different places, don't you? It's cool that you're trying to be definitive, but for the record, the word has been adopted by the masses to define a style of dress, manner, and music. Words can mean whatever people want them to, really, so long as the usage is understood by the majority.

It's a genre of music, use it however you want, it's not gonna change the true meaning. Which is exactly why it shouldn't be used to identify those all those things you just named.
It's not even the fact that people call themselves emo without knowing what it means, but they even misuse it when referring to music. It's emotively charged hardcore punk. Not clothes, not style. Not bullshit mainstream alternative music. It's not even slang, it's people using it without even knowing what it means. That's how it even got be considered a style. IT'S IDIOTS NOT USING THE WORD CORRECTLY, YEAH MAYBE PEOPLE CAN IDENTIFY TO IT, because that's how idiotic people. They hear emo, and what do they most likely think it means? Emotional. Everybodys ****ing emotional. Saying your an emo, and referring to it as emotional just doesn't make any damn sense. Last edited by Samhain; 07-26-2007 at 07:08 AM. |
