Yes it is. The entire idea of the project was to start off at SlaveHack's glory days - and then improve the game further.
As it is commonly known, the developer of SlaveHack hardly looks after his product anymore. In the last 3 months there has been just a single update.
Nethack on the other hand aims to get at least 1-2 updates per WEEK, and even more atm as the game has just started.
