I found sabayon easier for some reason O.o... thats what I'm running right now, no problems yet. You wont be ****ed unless you installed from the live CD. if your running it live you should be ok. Ooh I have Nvidia haven't lagged yet on GW even if I'm running it through WINE. Though I never capped my bandwidth that my bro wants me to do. >.< I'll get around to it.

Really, people just need to actually know what they are doing.
Computers is one of the only things where the number of people that don't know what they are doing out-number those that do. It's not that hard. Read a book about it or something first. If you try to swim without learning how to swim you'll end up drowning.

My first instinct is to call you ****ing idiot for getting into shit you don't know about. Furthermore, I was thinking about rediculing you and pointing my finger at you saying "ha ha, you ****tard, thats what you get". Instead, I'll actually be helpful.
1) The reason you couldnt' find that software in the repositories, is that by default, a lot of repos are disabled. You have to go inside symantic and click on options >> repositories (don't quote me, I don't **** with ubuntu anymore) then refresh your software list. There's a faster way to do it, but I can't remember the name of the text file, and you being lazy I'm pretty sure don't want to **** with them anyways. 2) You CAN play Maple Story on linux without having to dual boot or get a virtual machine. Just install cedega. Technically you have to subscribe to transgaming to get access to it, but some distros (cant remeber if that includes ubuntu) offer an older version of it in the repos. Cedega.com/gamesdb has a list of all current games supported by it. You'd be surprised at the size of the list. 3) You're using the wrong distro. I'm not saying that Ubuntu is bad, I'm just saying that for a lazy guy like you who just came out of XP and expects shit to run like it does there, it's the wrong choice for you. You need to get a KDE based distro like Knoppix, Suse, pcLinuxOS, Mandriva, Lindows (which isn't free), etc. If you can't stand to wait on downloads or mail, stay away from suse, as it's a 5 cd distro (but it's my fav. so far. 4) As for hardware, as was mentioned before, stay away from ATI. I adore them, but their drivers do suck. Also, Linux seems to do better with Intel cpus (shit, their quad-core is faster than AMD's anyways...God, did I just say that...I'll miss the good old days). 5) You've been asking about your troubles in the wrong place. Actually, you shouldn't have had to ask shit in the first place because all your questions have been answered many times over on the main ubuntu forum. It took me 10 minutes to get comfortable with Ubuntu, and 1 day to feel sexy: command prompts, tweaking, etc. 6) If you're really concerned about games not making it on the cedega list or appsdb.winehq list, ****ing dual boot your system next time. 7) LONG LIVE THE PENGUIN!!! |

Anyway, there is a Live CD you can download from the Ubuntu website. Burn it, restart your PC and boot up into it. You will have a more or less full Ubuntu environment, but take the disk out, restart and you'll be back to Windows. The Live CD doesn't write anything to the hard drive. |

Strange, I tried replying and it said something about being under review. Perhaps better, since, though informative, was filled with anger at the ignorance of your methods. Anyways, who ever says linux is only for server use or whatever is sadly misinformed.
I'll reiterate something I said in my earlier post (that isn't posted yet): Find a distro that is more windows XP like, until you become a Linux Jedi. |

I'm using both Ubuntu and Windows(for playing games only). Just create partitions for Ubuntu and install it there. You can play few windows games on linux with cedega or wine but most of them won't even start especially games with GameGuard. Linux is still not ready to play games with, so you need to live with Windows.
Note: Install Windows first since you will need to install GRUB in order to boot Ubuntu. Note 2: If you want to share files between Ubuntu and Windows then create a fat32 partition. Note3: Read documentations about Ubuntu before you install it. |
