Default Xbox kills baby, MSFT wants the family to play the company's legal fees.

Quote:
Microsoft has now officially responded to an Illinois family's lawsuit in which a fire was allegedly caused by a faulty Xbox console in December of 2004. The fire resulted in the death of an infant, Wade Kline. According to the lawsuit, the fire was caused by an overheating power supply, which became so hot as to start the deadly fire. Microsoft, in response, has stated that the fire was wholly the responsibility of the family, and that it was the result of "misuse or abuse" of the console in question. Furthermore, Microsoft claims that the fire was the result of an "obvious" condition of which the family was aware. Considering Microsoft did not recall power cords until February of 2005 (on account of fire concerns) we're not sure to what obvious condition Microsoft is referring. Microsoft is asking that the case be dismissed and that the Kline family pay the company's legal fees.

When you gotta recoup the costs of the 360 flopping in Japan and the Zune flopping just about anywhere, you sue a grieving family.

I know Microsoft's losing out on a lot of money with their products atm, but compensating a family is not exactly breaking the bank.

But just imagine their legal fees... ouch. Microsoft aren't really known to be tight fisted when it comes to legal representation.

christ anything for a knock at the xbox 360.

The family sued microsoft, microsoft didnt sue the family. Read the article..

I feel for the family, but they were looking for someone to blame other than themselves for it.

and microsoft asking them to pay their legal fees was a bit steep...

The family sued them because a faulty xbox cord killed their baby. Microsoft ADMITTED to this fact 3 months later and started the exchange program. They're not pushing the blame on anyone, it was Microsoft's fault because they can't make hardware worth a damn.

Oh and don't get on my *** about being a fanboy because you and the rest aren't saints yourself.
