Heavenly Sword is “half-assed” says Itagaki

Itagaki is at it again. Itagaki Tomonobu who is the lead graphics programmer of Tecmo, refers to Heavenly sword as half assed in the latest EGM magazine in which there’s a Heavenly Sword preview and a little article.

Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itakagi goes on the record as an outspoken critic of Sword’s Hero Sequences.
“I’ve never played a good game where the developers put a big icon of the button you’re supposed to press onscreen,” Itagaki says. “I look at Heavenly Sword and it seems really half-assed, because it’s asking you to do all these button-timing sequences but you are not getting much payoff from it.”

Unsurprisingly, HS producer Kyle Shubel sees it differently.
“My response to Mr. Itagaki would be that the intent of the Hero sequences is to empower the player to experience events that would be nearly impossible to play in a natural platforming state… for example, making the player run down ropes, leaping from rope to rope as they’re being cut from underneath you, all while dodging other objects - that would be a frustrating experience to 99 percent of our users if we were to force them to do that manually.”

Personally, I think pulling those moves off manually would be really awesome. That gives me a way bigger rush than just pressing buttons. But maybe Itagaki and I are just different. <.<

Well, hes never played many games huh? Shouldn't he get back to making horrible games covered in over sized tits or maybe dissing games like Tekken and Virtual Fighter for being better overall fighters and selling more then his DOA games do?

I'd rather do it manually, more sense of an accomplishment.

I don't like Heavenly Sword, but I still think that it was distasteful of him to make such a stupid statement.

It's like attacking God of War, possibly the most successful action game, for the exact same thing.

He's attacking EVERY game that does it. It's what you do when you think your games are the greatest when in reality they're absolute shit.

I agree. The Heavenly sword demo sucked. I watched a very boreing cut scene then I began to swing on some ropes while the screen prompted me the exact button to hit in order to achieve simple tasks. Then after that cut scene, I pressed the Square button repeatedly 146 times then shortly after began experimenting with my other attack mode on another round of enemies by hitting Triangle 98 times. (I counted the times because I had nothing better to do. Enemies flock towards you, 1 by 1 while the other 35 stand around.) Then I watched another cutscene and the demo was over.

I was very disappointed seeing as this demo was 996MB for a 2 minute adventure of repeated button mashing. Resistance gave me 2 levels (atleast 45 minutes) for only 866MB and sadly the graphics were better on Resistance. I have nothing good to report about HS.

Anyways this Thursday we got another round of updates and got two new demos this week. Played THE DARKNESS as well as GRAW 2 and was very impressed by both but of course no body would post those because everyone reports the bad PS news.

Actually he has. He attacked RE4 which i do agree on this, because they didnt add moving while in aim mode.

----------
Also DMC is alot more succesful then God of war, god of war had no depth really, it did ok because it added cheesy gore and sexual things.

The only game I've played in this thread that was mentioned was Ninja Gaiden.
While Ninja Gaiden was a great game, I can't even begin to express how lame it is that the new Ninja Gaiden game is yet another remake of the original Xbox version. I mean yes, it is awesome, but how about a new story or something? They probably added on to the story and added new weapons and stuff but I mean...How many times do they want me to fight the same bosses? No.

I am never fighting Alma again. NEVER.
