Microsoft released two big updates for Vista today, known as the "performance and reliability" update and the "compatibility and reliability" update.
The first update address Explorer file transfer (copy/move), as slowness looks to have been fixed. Hibernate and sleep now actually work as advertised, and a load of video card support issues have been rolled up. The second update addresses "poor memory management performance," as well as a handful of specific issues, including a nasty problem installing printers when User Account Control is disabled. Also gone is the ever-so-annoying networking flaw that would strike TCP/IP dead after a computer wakes from hibernation, and offline file synchronization is reportedly fixed, according to the release notes. Although not a service pack as such, there updates will likely be bundled with SP1 when it is released next decade. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979/en-us http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194/en-us The only problem so far is that these updates are only for users running Genuine Microsoft Windows, Or whatever they're calling it nowadays. So that's me out until Tuesday, when the updates will be rolled out through Windows Update. |
