If you have a DS, then Megaman ZX would be a pretty good game, seeing as how it has the Metroid/Castlevania gameplay, but is, of course, Megaman.
Other than that, the Castlevania series would be your best bet, mainly Aria of Sorrow. They're far more intriguing than Metroid anyways (even though Metroid will always be a winner for me as well).
