Good "old school" 2D RPG

Hi guys! I'm looking for a one player RPG that is similar to LUNAR for ps1, valkyrie profile, or something like the 12 kingdoms anime.

2D anime style graphics, GREAT story, turn based, something like that. The really enthralling story line is the main thing. I don't want something like Oblivion, or Thief. I'm yearning for some old school, deep, story involvement which most games today lack severely.

I have played every Final Fantasy to death (including XI), and i no longer have a console to play on. I hear there are some decent ps1 emulators out there, but i'd rather just play something intended for PC as i hear the emu's are still buggy.

Let me know if there is something out there similar to what i am looking for, or if i am just chasing a dream!

Planescape Torment, best story ever, beats any FF story. But sometimes you'll feel like your reading a book rather than playing a game. And its not turn really based.
Baldur's Gate and the other Black Isle D&D games are also great, very similar to planescape except less reading and more playing.

Or just play some ps1 games like Xenogears, DQ, Tales, SO2, Vagrant Story, etc. The ps1 emulators work pretty good, can pretty much emulate anything perfectly and can have better graphics than a ps1.

baldur's gate has a much deeper story then torment its spread across 2 games

well if brawlers with RPG elements are good,try River city ransom,best game known to man in my opinion.

you just totally answered that lingering title name man, and it was river city ransom. That game kicked ass, that all so beautiful sprites man that shitll never go wrong

These aren't PC RPG's, but you could try:

LUNAR: Dragon Song (DS)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (PSP, remake of the first VP)

As for PC RPG's, there's the Diablo games, but those aren't turn based.

A true MMOFPS in the sense, with the freedom to experience roleplaying elements, and not grinding elements like every single MMORPG/FPS in the world. Salute to Face Of Mankind.
