I'm sure some people here on OnRPG here are guitarists, so if it isn't too much to ask, I'd like some help :P.
Basically, alot of my strings have been snapping quite often, and it's pissing me off considering they've been re-strung not long before. So essentially, what is it that makes the strings snap so easily and how can I avoid it? I know that some of them have been snapping at the bridge because I applied too much pressure with a palm mute, but otherwise I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated, and if it helps, I own a Fender squier Stratocaster, about 8 years old :P. |

who is stringing your guitar?? you or a pro?? cos im not very god at stringing my guitar. usually you have to pick lightly especially while playing dead strings or palm muting. oh and this may be stupid but have you tuned your guitar strings high seeing as the strings become more taut when u play em they tend to break depending how constricted they are?

I'd suggest using a lighter pick and maybe trying not to strum so hard. It could also be your strings, as stated above. If they're snapping at the bridge for whatever reason, you might try taking a pencil and putting a little bit of graphite there. But anyway, I take no responsibility for whatever happens if you decide to take my advice.

Okay forget anyone said anything so far [picking too hard? wtf?], and listen to what I have to say.
There are many reasons why your guitar's strings may be snapping so often. The first reason is that your action might not be adjusted properly and is thusly putting way too much tension on your strings. The second reason could be that your strings really really suck and even though your action is good and you're tuned properly, they can't stand that kind of pressure. Third reason, your tuning is off, or it's on and then you **** with the knobs and put too much pressure on the strings. I would also recommend getting a new guitar. And on top of that, try D'Addario XL strings. Those are the strings I've been using for quite a long while, and haven't snapped yet. Also, you might want to take a walk to your nearest guitar/music center and have them check out your action and whatnot or maybe just your guitar in general to see if they can pinpoint the problem.

what he said, squire strats are terrible when you buy them, let alone 8 years after.
and what he said is right, probably an action idea.. and also, if theyre snapping at the bridge, it could be your bridge being a bit too sharp, ive heard of it happening. Try filing it down. Also try filing your frets down a little bit. Take couple of piccys of your guitar side on, all the way down it. |
