Awesome post. I would add that Blizzard has little to no respect for its community though. After playing the game since launch there is a lot I loved about it and a lot that bothered me. What finally made me give the game up was thier expansion model. If you haven't played WOW yet and are thinking about it please read my next sentence very carefully.
Each expansion will render any and all work you have invested into the game to that point almost entirely useless. The only thing time you save is the actual level of your toon itself, all of your gear...all of it...becomes 100% garbage. Some people may say so what? Well in WOW gear=the point of the entire game. If you are not well geared you will not be competitive in end game content (either raiding or PvP). So you need to either grind BGs or instances to obtain said gear which takes a long time. So you level a toon to 70 (or 60 in the old days) grind many hours for your choice gear running instance after instance, raid after raid, BG after BG and finally you are ready to compete with the serious players.......enjoy the few months you have before the next expansion renders all of that work useless. The level cap is raised to 80, and suddenly your bomb *** T5 gear (or season 2 glad set) you spent months and hundreds of hours getting is replaced by level 74 greens. I could go on a 10 page rant about reputation grinding and all that time sink BS but i'll save that for another time. If you want to play casual and don't care about being competitive at end game content then you will probabily enjoy WOW for a good long while. Like everyone has said so far it's all a matter of taste. What downsides bother you the least ect. If anyone has any WOW related questions feel free to ask me and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

I also cried a little. Enjoy trying to kill someone with 300+ resilience in your PVE casual blues and greens....

PVP can be quite entertaining in FFXI, the game isn't oriented on it, however, it is pretty cool to do so.
I think there's 3 PVP modes. Ballista Brenner And a new one being added soon called "The pit" which is monster trainer vs monster trainer. This is FFXI's ballista.
