They are two totally different beasts here. Plus, Fortress Forever announced their release date as Sept. 17th a week or more ago - so when Valve announced the beta launch of TF2 for the same day the other day, FF guys decided to release a bit early, so people could actually play the mod and compare them.

And its very easy to compare. One is based off Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic, with homages to both and has a realistic art style with frantic gameplay and very balanced classes - and looks beautiful.

The other is based off Team Fortress mostly, though pays homage to both original games, has a very unique phong shaded art style (that admittedly looks terrific of course), very, very frantic gameplay and what looks to be slightly unbalanced classes in respect to certain guns and the elimination of grenades from the game.

Hardcore TF players will more than likely stick with Fortress Forever, period. Casual players, or just players who enjoy team oriented games and slick action will play both, and likely favor Team Fortress 2 due to whatever reasons.

If im correct didnt this used to cost money on steam or be in a pack? anyways yea its pretty fun game but the new games are so much better that i cant waste my time on this no offense, but no doubt it was good for the time when it was made.

You are thinking of Team Fortress Classic, for the original Half-Life. And actually, when it was first released in 1999, it was totally free. It was a free mod released by Valve, for HL1 owners. Only after it became popular, did it start being sold in stores in packages/bundles and then eventually over on Steam.

I don't know how you can say "the new games are so much better that I cant waste my time on thiss" exactly, since Team Fortress, and Team Fortress Classic are some of the most fun multiplayer games EVER made. Fortress Forever, while only a first release, and therefore a bit buggy, and lacking some of the content of the other TF games (maps and such etc) is incredibly fun, deep and if you get on a good server, very team oriented - hence Team Fortress.

I personally find myself with interests only in TF2, Fortress Forever is a straight up port that is missing something Team fortress classic had. Fun, balance, for the most part. Fortress forever is okay for a free mod, but pretty much. Scout, spy, and even medic find themselves being useless in fortress forever. Considering the soldier's rocket fires so quickly, and the hwguy's speed is somewhat more than it should be.
