Are you kidding me? The 'MMO' part of 'MMORPG' doesn't just magically make it okay for a game to have no story, no plot, no freaking point. It's pathetic how many sheep just blindly accept games like MS with absolutely no storyline or underlying drive whatsoever. I applaud the OP for asking for something that really matters in an MMORPG. On topic, DOMO has a nice little storyline. I'm in the CB and from the very outset you feel drawn in. |

MMORPG Let's get this straight then. MMO= Massively Multiplayer Online meaning there's a bunch of people playing together . RPG = ROLE PLAYING GAME. Meaning there IS A STORY and an ENDING to that story. Most mmorpgs are just mmogs (Massively multiplayer Online grinders/games) not mmorpgs. So far the only ones that can be called an MMORPG are Lunia, DOMO, and Pi Story. Everything else just fails. |

Most of the older mmorpg's don't really have stories, but quite a few new ones do. Lunia focuses quite a bit upon it's story, but it also is rather cliche. Judging by Pi Story's closed beta, it will most likely focus on a story to some extent. Trickster is beginning to implement quests revolving around its main story, but I suspect it will take a long time for it to be completed. For games you need to pay for Final Fantasy 11 has a surprising amount of story within the game while WoW has a few big questchains and it seem like it will follow a theme of "one main goal per expansion" (if you desire to chose between these two, Final Fantasy 11 feels far more rewarding). For games that are debatable as rpg's, Guild Wars is a 1 time payment and the non-PvP sections are almost entirely based upon its story. Diablo II also has a decent storyline, but it's not really a game you play for the story. That's really all the games I can think of at the moment that I have played that even bother to have a "main goal".
Also, in defense of story's in games, it gives you something to strive for. Otherwise, you will just be trying to get to the max lvl than once you get to it there's really nothing to do whereas with a story even if you are at the max lvl there are probably a few quests that still must be done in order to save the world or whatever the goal is. |
