hey, i was bored so i thought id write a review for all you people who havent decided if you want to play this game or not.
Gunz: The Duel Gunz the Duel is an MMOTPS (Massively Multiplayer Online Third Person Shooter) or TPS MUD game made by the company Maiet many years ago, the game is a pretty small but very entertaining mmo. Gunz uses a client sided peer2peer system for handling packets, this eliminates the problem of lagging if you dont live in the same country as the host, but causes some problems because of the need to aim ahead of the opponent or else the hit wont register on their screen. This system has been complained about in igunz and nagunz for a very long time because people from all around the world play, so you get pings ranging from 5-150. Most games are peer2server meaning packets are sent to the server then from the server to all players, their also server based so whatever happens on the server is what happens in the game. peer2peer games are when the packets are sent directly between players, commonly used in FPS games where one person acts as the host. In Gunz there is no host, each person is connected to every other person in the room and everyone exchanges packets, because the game is also client sided means what you see on your computer is what happens to your character, meaning you arent where other people see you if the ping is over 50 or so. Gunz is a fast paced MMOTPS with lvls in it, you recieve exp per stage you do in quest or per kill when doing PvP (the game is PvP based) and unlocks higher level equipment. The problem here is the lack of equipment, armor choices are limited with a maximum of 2 choices at a certain lvl (lvl 0 you have 2 choices, lvl 20 you have 2, every other lvl theres only 1 typ eof armor). The weapons are also limited, stopping at lvl 50. The absolute biggest problem with the leveling and equipment is the shotguns, their the most populer weapon in Gunz being user by atleast 90% of the population, then rest using rocket launchers, revolvers or the rare automatic user (usually only seen in deathmatch mode). The game is highly skill based, this is because not only is Gunz fast paced but there are countless glitches in the game that are used by almost every single player on Gunz. The use of these glitches are allowed by Maiet because it makes the game extremely interesting, being able to do things such as jumping, dashing in the air, slashing then blocking extremely fast before you even land. There are 3 main Styles used in Gunz, the first is K-Style the most common, they use only glitches such as Butterfly (jump, dash, slash, block). The second is D-Style, less common and most just use one D-Style move. The last is E-Style, the rarest of them all, people think newbies are E-Stylers but they arent, E-Stylers are the people who dont use glitches but instead rely on tactics and outsmart their opponents (easier done than said). The graphics of the game are pretty old but their still decent, mostly. Some of the graphics such as the smoke grenades are poor though, making them almost completely useless. The sounds in the game are decent aswell, some sounds being pretty good while others being horrible. In NAGunz theres also voices, these are usually extremely annoying and most people opt to turn them off. Despite all these flaws Gunz has thousands of players and is an extremely entertaining game, many people would like it updated but continue to play it for one of many reasons, i myself continue to play for this day (2 years or so and counting) because of the great people ive met (i have a clan, the general community sucks) and the joy i find in beating newbies who think their #1 (aka ego noobs). I give Gunz a 7/10 Reason: Although its highly flawed and unbalanced its highly addicting and very enjoyable, you could easily spend hours every day for years playing it without it getting old, provided you can keep learning and improving your skills. Please tell me what you think, its been about 3 years since i last reviewed a game (i used to do reviews for the school i was at) Last edited by Hiroku; 09-20-2007 at 08:37 AM.
