Like you said, they have different kinds of DSL. It depends upon which package you order, DSL *can* be faster than cable (I think)...theres a tester somewhere, just wait for someone to post it.
I have DSL right now, and I can't tell you how thankful I am for it. I mean, I used to have 56k dial up, and I'd have to get off every time my mom needed the phone! Lol. How was I supposed to d/l anything. If the speeds are affecting you that much, just start it before you go to bed.

i had dial up 56k in my first year of uni when i was in halls. It took about 10 billion years to download msn updates and i had to get my brother to bring the Conquer Online client to my room on cd. fun times.
Dialup is wank whatever way you look at it. always open connections are always better |

I'm just going to give a general speed. You can get better speeds depending on how much you pay, but I'm just assuming you want the speeds that are more common.
Dial Up: 56 Kbs DSL: 1.5 Mbs Cable: 6 Mbs Read a lot more about ISP speeds here http://www.consumersearch.com/www/in...sp/review.html or http://reviews.cnet.com/Internet_acc...-6536_7-0.html I'm not sure what Oisterboy meant by "Test" but you can check your internet speed at http://www.speedtest.net/

yeahh really depends what you ISP offer's, i get a nifty 4.5mb DLS for 30$(canadian) a month, wich is a damn good deal if you ask me, my regular download speed is usualy betwen 500-690kb/s some and some very rare 700.
upload is garbage though, 70kb/s =/ |

Just a bit of advice; always look for special offers. A few years ago I was a little short on money, so I paid $19.99 a month for six months of Comcast (It was in introductory rate). After the six months were up, I asked to cancel. When a representative asked why, I answered that DSL cost a lot less, so the representative gave my an additional six months of Comcast.
I was a happy, happy boy.

As in my sig I have comcast, they're pretty good. But I really don't like that we have the VOIP thing, because I sometimes reset the connection every week. And if the nets out then the phones out, which is lame.
I might think of upgrading tomorrow,to something faster than what we have. |
