We all know the controversy on pirating movies, and, if I'm outstepping my bounds here (the rules), just let me know. I'm not giving a guide on how to pirate movies, I'm giving a guide on how to back up the discs you have. The program asks you nicely not to do it with discs you don't own, and if you do...your breaking the law. Its up to the user.
Anyway, with that out of the way... I had a killer combo with my Mac. MacTheRipper and Roxio Popcorn 2. That was a great combination until I decided to reformat my Mac (I wanted to re-do some of the original settings, it was easier to reformat) I couldn't find my copy of Popcorn 2, so...I had to settle with Roxio Toast 8 Titanium. Its a great little program. It makes backups EXTREMELY simple. To get the copy restrictions off of the disc, you use MacTheRipper to rip the movie to your hard drive. When you open up Roxio Toast, you can select the Video TS file from a list, and put in a blank DVD. When its in, you just click "Burn", and it compresses the movie to fit your DVD, on the fly! You don't have to use a separate program at all (I remember using DVDShrink for Windows) I'm not sure why I made this thread, other than to inform you guys...that combination is awesome! You can do so much with Toast that you can't do with any other program (including grabbing stuff from your Tivo, and it will burn it to a watchable DVD! How awesome is that!?) So, any Mac users looking to back up some DVD's, check out those two programs. Do yourself a favor, and save loads of time with them
