I'm actually trying both in a few minutes. I'll tell you what I think when I'm done.

Redstone by far. I have a lvl154 warrior, and the game still amaze me. Especially the guild features. The graphics and the gameplay seems to keeps the kiddys out. The community is more mature.

Besides this weekend there will be double exp/drops. Good time to start.

I just tried Red Stone. It has an excellent skill system. The stat system is pretty deep, but a little funky. The stats don't seem to have a huge effect until you get them really high. The graphics aren't that great. On par with Diablo II, I guess. The fighting is decent. Melee classes get to form combos, which leads to some strategy in terms of skill usage.

My favorite class was the Princess/Little Witch class. You can buy items from anywhere, throw items, transform yourself into a weapon, "draw" a clone of a monster to fight for you, and more! Very unique. =P

I'm also tried out Phoenix Dynasty.

So far, the movement is smoother than Red Stone. It seems that everyone gets glowing equipment at a very low level. The game reminds me of Conquer Online. It's pretty fun. Leveling isn't that hard because quests give lots of experience. You also get low level AoE skills that let you level up even faster.

EDIT: After about an hour in each game...
Red Stone: I definitely want to continue my Princess/Little Witch character. Those skills are FUN!
Phoenix Dynasty: I'm a bit bored, but I might start again later. =P

Well I have played both.

Redstone far more extensively than the phoenix (only because it's been out longer).

Redstone:

The graphics are very "super nintendo" for a comparison. Ya know, the chubby little characters...

Upsides:

Skill system > Many skills to choose from, allowing you to go either hybrid or pure, since all classes have a second side.

Quests > Tons of quests out there to do, you have class quests, normal quests, main quests, title quests, etc

That's about it for the upsides as far as I am concerned.

Downsides:

Character building > The game is utterly convuluted when it comes how you have to build your character. It would appear at first glance that you have a very open character system, allowing you put points for attributes or skills anywhere you wish and be fine. However this is not the case. Considering you won't see any sort real grasp on your character until your in the 100's.

Once there, you will see all sorts of equipment with large mods to your skills that have HIGH reqs (ie: X amount of charisma for a archer skill, etc)

In any case, the documentation on proper builds is very skimpy at best.

Transportation > I find this part of the game the most tedious by far. It seems like it takes forever to get anywhere, since you so slow. Even with like +25%, +30% or more run speed. The game is geared for cash shop players that are going to be buying those carpets.

Also, the cost of transporting from one area to another is ridiculous imho (10,000g! which is quite high considering high level items only sell for like 7500? maybe 10k can't remember to be honest...In any case, money is a major pain to get ... at least for the first 75 or so levels)

Quest system > While being an upside, since there are so many to do. They are also a downside, considering the utterly retarded way so many of them are written out. Making you go back and forth across the same few areas over and over and over again ... sometimes costing you more money than you get for even completing the quest in the first place!

Finally, the community. Someone mentioned above that it was "more mature" and less "kiddish" ... I really laughed out loud when I read that.

I find people extremely rude in game. Alot of them will refuse to even speak in english, despite the game being for english speaking people (GnG has a version for non english people that is IP blocked I do believe)

Overall, the game is like a 3/10 .. Go ahead and play it yourself, everyone should form their own opinions based on actually playing the game. But if you can't be bothered, feel free to skip it, your not missing anything.

As for phoenix ...

At first the game didn't seem too bad, very low grade type of game. Minimal graphics, nothing fancy to see, the translations are poor at best. The loot system drives me utterly up the wall though!

There is simply too much crap dropped, you usually spend more time picking up your loot than you did killing what dropped it.

Then you have the silly little "alt button" loot window, that is supposed to make things easier on you .. sadly this is not the case .. considering it can have you running all over the place trying to pick up other peoples loot ... just a totally useless feature.

When are games going to come to their senses and just give us automatic looting in every game. Makes life so much simpler.

Anyways, neither game is very playable imho. Many other games out there to play that involve far less hassle.

Let me do a little review about Redstone.

Graphics are oldskool. Diablo series like. If you like eye candy and dont care about gameplay. This game is not for you. Its funny how games with best graphics always lacks gameplay and vice versa(most of the time). I'm actually happy with it. I HATE WoW graphics.

Quests is best to compare to with morrowind and oblivion. There are to many to count. You got a main quest that is extremely long. And which requires different levels to complete.
You got title quests that upon completion give you a title that will add something like faster city walking, monster detection attributes, dungeon map, or just simply stats. There are so many, and some are very interesting for ceratain classes. And worth it!
And you got many normal quests. That give rewards that can be really worth it. Example a lvl 100 quest that upon completion gets you to lvl103. this saves you hours of grinding. Thats to high lvl for you? There is a lvl30 quest that gives you 1 lvl and 170k gold. To many to name that are really worth it to do.

The grinding isnt boring imo. Because there are secret dungeons. Dungeon with a twist to it. Solve a puzzle, you have to use your brain. Some have a time limit even! The monster in those dungeon have increased exp and drop rate. And upon completion you get a big exp reward and sometime also gold! Example lvl80 secret dungeon gives 1 million exp and 200k gold. which lvl you up instantly! Its so worth it do. But they are limited to 2 time each 24 hours. So come to them wisely...There is only 1 class that can really solo effectivly, that would be tamer. Most classes are better off in a party. You backup each others weakpoints. And its really teamwork. I missed that so much in mmorpgs. Thank you redstone!

The community is not that bad in my opinion. I met many mature people playing. Even a couple of 40+ years.(lol)Ofcourse there always some retards/morons who you should just ignore. I made some good friends in the game. Keep in mind that there is a large group of japanse/chinese playing, because redstone is a very populair game there already. Some speak english
others dont. Most are very nice guys, they really try to talk english. Gives me a good laugh sometimes!

Each class has a different set of skill. Most skill have some sort of purpose and are not useless. Its true that it will take a while before you max out a skill. But the lvl limit is 999 which is enough to max out all skills. Highest lvl on jp server is lvl 630 or so. There are areas with lvl700 monsters. So given enough time you can get close to cap. Some skills have awesome visual effects also. Also the game has the most unqiue class I ever seen. you can play as a fat ugly little princess, who cries alot to gather power. And then you can transform into a beautiful witch! If your friend has a flying carpet and you dont? no promblem she can transform into someone else his backpack and travel with him.

A guild have many features. As a guild increases in power it also lvlup. Then the guildmaster gets guild points he can invest in many things like stats, skills, etc. All members in that guild will benefit from these bonuses and get stronger. This effect can be huge. You can have your owns guildhall a place where everyone can meet and make plans. In that building there are npc that sell diffrent things. Also pets and statues get collected in here. You can set it so that everyone can visit your guildhall and showoff. There are also guild quests where you get honor points from, which can be used to make the guild stronger also. And there are guildwars. Which is PvP. you challenge a other guild This is teamwork at its best. I heard from japanses players the pvp is excellent. Because there are maps were 100+ people can fit in. A huge war!

The items are interesting to say the least. They have very strange prefixes and suffixes that exist. Some very rare and usefull. Like power fixed 120. Which means your luck will be fixed at 120. If your a mage and you just need some power for armor stuff. this will save you loads of stat points. This is just one example, there are hundred of options. There are also unique and set items but they are very rare.

Now I will also name some bad points. Everyone is suffering from disconnections. Some mild others hard. They are trying to fix it.
There are still some bugs that need to be fixed, nothing major though. Like quests bugs or text bugs. The world is huge. If you have to walk everything it takes alot of time. You can choose to get carpet from premium shop. to boost youre movement. But a other time saver is a priest. He can call you to him. In the beginning it seems very confusing. Your in a huge city and dont know where to go. Give it time and it will grow on you.

If you got more question let me know. Ill try to awnser them.

My nickname = Omni
You can whisper me if you want. If I got time ill help you powerlevel abit, also give you information if you got question about something.

Cu in game!
