I know my dogs. Everytime they were sick they would eat grass, and they would barf immediately after. They purge their stomachs that way. It's like a human sticking his finger down his throat.

FYI dogs are scavengers and not hunters so they will eat virtually anything or at least sample something.
There are a load of different reasons why dogs eat grass, some beause its part of their diet and others because as BBH said it acts as an irritant if the dog eats something that doesnt sit right with it and causes the dog to vomit. |

If your dog eat grass becuz theyr are sick then sad/happy for them. Mines does not eat grass becuz they are sick nor will they throw up becuz they eat grass. My neighbor dogs does the same thing and none of them has thrown up so far. As I said before, there's no particular reason dog eat grass. They eat about anything.
There are cases about dog eating grass and vomit. Some vet believes grass has something that tickles the dog's tummy and make them vomit. WHatever is the case, not all dogs are like this.

There could be several reasons why dogs eat their own shit. Take my dog for example, i rarely clean its cage simply it doesn't have anything dirty on it (except for some urine), it's clean everytime i come home. If i recalled, i never saw any shit lying around the cage. Maybe it's an ambassador of the Dog's Cleanliness Ministry i suppose? And it's duty is to dispose shit by eating them? I'll never know.
