how the hell do you expect them to like a game so deepth and complex as FF:XI? whoever said first that WoW is the McDonalds of online gaming should be awarded a nobel... thats what losers want, a "fast food" nobrain game they can master with the half brain god gifted them

i find the whole analogy that FFXI requires brains to be funny. I've watched my friend raid and i dont see the intellectually challenging parts of this game. No video games require too much intelligence for most of them are played by teens and community college kids.

Please, don't bring numbers into a discussion based on the quality of a game. No, having a large player base does not make WoW a better game, because frankly, it doesn't have one.
9 Million is peanuts. Comparitively, peanuts. I mean, Maplestory has that number in Japan ALONE. Then China adds about 27 million, Korea 14 million, Global 3 million. And before you say it's not p2p, TONS people EASILY spend the same as a WoW sub monthly on 2x EXP, game items, tokens, shops, pets, cosmetics, weddings each month. Easy. Does that make it a better game than WoW? Because by your logic, "If it was a better game, it'd be talked about more, meaning it would have more than just 500,000+ players with 1.7million characters only." So that means Maplestory must blow WoW out of the ballpark, along with all the other games that are immensely popular in Asia like Audition, Ragnarok or Perfect World, that have way more that 9 Million subscribers. |

Oh also, if they spend the same amount as a wow monthly, since you're going number crazy, what are their profits compared to WoW? Even though my question is irrelevant it is just as irrelevant as what you have posted.

I will add this much, due to WoW's profit margin... Blizzard has hired a ton of new staff and had their own new HUGE company building built in Irvine with a courtyard in the middle and a big *** fountain made up of "murlocs" or some other WoW characters so i hear.
The building alone must have cost more than most could have imagined.

lol relax, you are partially correct in your post. I was adding some interesting side facts separate from the debate.
That said, concerning the maple story / WoW profit margin .... Its a lot like waiting tables... the more expensive restaurants have bigger tips, consistent in nature, but less customers per hour. Where as, a burger joint such as Johnny Rockets might get a ton of people per hour, but the cheap food and fast food like service gets smaller tips if any at all. So the waiter in that case would either have consistent few tables with large tips or a bunch of tables with smaller tips if any at all. Its the p2p vs f2p idea in a sense. The consistent 15 a month from 8 million players is a guaranteed profit number, where as a random number of income from 16 million players is not guaranteed in a f2p game. I might not have articulated this well enough but I hope it makes sense.

I've played my fair share of each of the games, and I, personally, would say go for Final Fantasy XI. Of course, in the end, the choice is up to you. I think pretty much overall FFXI is better than WoW. FFXI's community and the people who play it are 100X more kind, and fun to play with than WoW's, at least from my time playing the game. In FFXI, even the small things are enjoyable. Riding your Chocobo, or riding Ships, and even just walking around the cities and seeing all of the flame-eaters and all of the activities going on. The music is awesome, as well. Also, the combat in FFXI to me is a lot more solid than WoW's. The classes are a lot more original, and unique, which I like as well- They are very diverse, and each class and job serves a purpose. Even the races are more original and distinguishable. Overall, I'd say that FFXI is the best choice. Really, its up to you though, so don't let people push you to buy a game if you don't want it. I hope this helped you :P
