I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the navy academy can be joined right after highschool. The problem is getting accepted. You need extremely high grades as well as, I believe, a recommendation from a congressman to even be considered.

Not quite, but it's the next-best thing. If you want in the naval academy, you would probably have a better chance enlisting first, and then working your way toward acceptance.
Also, if you want concrete information, I suggest going to a military forum, not one full of 13 year olds. :P

Alright. Let me help you out real quick:
Navy Academy is among one of the most prestiged schools in the whole entire US...and WORLD for that matter - Considered to be on the level of Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, (so on and so forth). Not only does it train you to be well educated but it also trains you to be in a military environment for which you have to serve as an officer a minimum of 4 years after you leave the academy if you're going to a surface billet, 5 years if going for a submarine billet, and 6 if going special forces. The requirements are somewhat estringent - You have to be selected by a senator first off....out of your whole entire state. You must have very good SAT scores - On the old SAT, the MINIMUM was a 1200 but then again, the higher the better; only weeds out those who wouldn't make it in the first place right? (I'm not sure what the req is for the new SAT but I'd assume it'd be like 1800 or something). Physically, it's just like any regular Navy bootcamp - If you're anywhere from 17-19, you need to be able to do 53 pushups in 2 minutes, 71 situpds in 2 minutes, and run a mile and a half in 12 minutes which.....is pretty damn easy. (IMO that is). All I can recommend is that you do the best you can in high school and do the best you can on the SAT and take up a sport in high school seeing as the Navy Academy looks at people who are athletically inclined as well.....do this and you should be fine. I hope this helps... P.S. - You might see me there in a few years since I'm heavily considering becoming an officer seeing as I intend to go through college soon anyways, (currently 19, E4, Firecontrolman on the San Juan). ~K-Rizzle........(or atleast I would be if my old name still wasn't banned). |
