the only problem is getting an 8800GT, there's a major understock atm and retailers are really bringing up the price for the ones that are still available

Ok I've decided not to go with the 8800gt for pricing reasons.
So far I've understood that basically 2x 8600gts = 8800gt. So if someone could tell me what the best bang for my buck is atm, that'd be great. I currently run on an integrated 6150. yes, lol. It sucks. So thanks again for all the help, this is deciding where 80% of my money is gonna go

3/4x 8600GTS = 8800GT again, the 8800GT is the best videocard available at a low price. And it performs like a madman.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=547&card2=544 and is 20% above HD2900 http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=547&card2=518 at half the price of both cards, the 3870 wins hans down, and has something the above cards doesn't have, better power consuming management, that alone kicks them both out of the water as it doesn't force yoou to once again buy a new power supply just for those, remember the main part of a VGA it's his memory bandwith which as you can see kicks the 8800GT out IMO at the same price of the 8800GT (around 300$ in newegg) with an extra 100$ you get 2 HD 3870 if you have the price and space and get almost 4 times the power of two 8800GT at half the power consumption, or just with 1 3870 you get nearly the same power of the 8800GT at half the price I suggest you do your searchs in gpureview, they are pretty good when coming with comparisons Quote:

8800GT vs 3870
http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=703&p=0 12% cost drop does not equal 20% performance drop.. I'd rather pay the quite small amount of extra cash for that.

it's a shame that AMD and ATI have been doing so poorly the past year.
i'm using AMD cpu's and they tend to be severely outperformed by intel ones. f.e. the Phenom Quads aren't near as good as C2Q. as for ATI, i never liked ATI alltogether , i just bought an EVGA 8800GT Superclocked (the only available 8800GT in about entire belgium)
