about the vista, it depends wether you like graphics over stability, I suggest XP as most DX 10 games don't even run well on vista quite the irony

and probably 2 8600GTS would be a single 8800GT bur for the price, it's better, cheaper and far more reliable to get a single 8800GT or even an ati HD3870

about the water cooling, it all depends if you are going for high overclockability, if you are not that kind of user, don't even waste your money on water cooling just get a few fans and you'll be alright

I suggest the contrary on the CPU, the quad core has almost the same price as the dual core and it will lasst you for the whole next year and even beyond, but that's mostly about preferences, IMO I would pick the quad core (in fact I am planning on ordering one in december)
I just saw the guide on water cooling and it is hard. I am not a overclocker I just want to run FPS on good~high setting with a acceptable fps. As for OS I think I will go with XP and still can't decide between a Quad or a Duo. Btw how much is the new GTS? is it like 400$? If it is then Im going with the GT

Its 12 here so thanks for all the suggestions good nite.

probably up-till fear on very low settings at 800x600 which means a VERY horrible game

I suggest you look for the new ATI HD 3850 and 3870 they are pretty cheap and very worth the price, if not then get a 8600GTS or 8800GT if you have the money

Heres my suggestion for a 1000$ computer:

CPU: Right now this CPU offers the best gaming performance, lack of multiple core support in most games (And 'to-be released' games as well)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115028
$279.99

Graphics:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130301
(EVGA KO 8800GT, restock on 26, if you are looking to buy from Newegg)
$309.99

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227139
$72.99
(Right now, there is no good performance difference between 1066 and 800, because there isn't a CPU that handles all that bandwidth)

Hard Drive: (16MB buffer)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136062
$59.99

Case: (Or pick something in the price range you like)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147033
$39.99

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059
$94.99

PSU: (I saw your post, don't get a cheap PSU, they can harm the hardware and wear out really fast).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194015
$94.99

DVD burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151153
31.99

Final Price:
$985

For your questions,
1 -You dont need 550W, the minimun is 450, but 400W works fine, as long as you have the voltages.
2- If you get 2 cheapers cards then you also need a motherboard that is a lot more expensive, go with the one 8800GT,
its a really good card.
3 - (I explained about the Quad and Duo ^^)
4- The 8800GT is built to handle high temps so don't worry about it, if anything DOES happen, you've got warranty,
and the case I picked has 2x120MM fans, you're good to go.
5- No there isnt a 8800GT 256, yet?
6 - Its better to get 7200 16MB buffer than 10000RPM 8MB buffer.
7 - Both. xp and vista, dual boot them
8- Last I heard about Geforce 9 was Q3 2008???
9 - Liquid cooling can be dangerous (if a tube explodes, your computer drowns :P ) so I don't recommend it for starters...

Naw.

My 6600 handled F.E.A.R on very low settings at 800X600. I'm sure the 8500 can handle much more than that.

actually the different between the 6600 and the 8500 is almost none, so no, they can handle equally, that's why the low range from nvidia sucks so much
