Actually lets just go ahead and exclude every single KMMORPG since that's basically what they are. I need something serious, pvp based, dark and artistic graphics. Just nothing cute, please.

well Guild wars would be a great choice as the PVP for MMO is kick ass as it mostly relies on skill not how many hour you've played and how many healing pots you can spam. You could give 2 moons a try its got PVP in it and no cute graphics and looks a bit dark its basically a grinders game as the quests are boring and don't really reward your for completing them. Got to lvl 20 in 1 day not too bad.

I've played about every gritty artistic style MMO you can think of.
I've played- -WoW -Guild Wars -RYL 1,2 -Diablo 1,2 (Let's just say I own every Blizzard game) -Everquest 2 Can think of others if I had the time. |

I would also suggest Rappelz as its got a more mature theme to its graphics department, there is a pvp server as well which you may enjoy.
Try Shaiya out too if you got the invite for the cb, it has a mature graphic theme too, still have not gotten into the pvp elements of it though (think it has them anyway). |

EvE Online is spectacular, and I'm shocked that it hasn't been suggested yet. It has a few quirks, but not a lot, and it has real pvp. The game is based around Risk vs Reward and the fighting is all about skill and dedication - grinding has nothing to do with it unless you choose to grind (ie mine/mission run), and even that wont make you powerful.
I haven't tried the new Realm Vs Realm features there, but EvE has always had player-owned realms (alright, player owned and run corporations that could own more space than the initial NPC factions) that could be conquered and contested.

Hmm go try archlord it is cool. It has some good graphics and it has pvp. Another game with LOTS of pvp is turf battles nothing graphically stunning but still its decent. There is virtually no grind so you can pvp in no time.
