An employee closing Trig's Minocqua Shell for the night mistakenly entered the price of a gallon of gasoline as 32.9 cents instead of $3.299 on Monday night.

He left about 10 p.m., but drivers could still use their credit cards to buy gas.

Word of the bargain spread fast in the rural northern Wisconsin community, with 42 people buying 586 gallons of gas in an hour and 45 minutes. One person had pumped 27 gallons and two purchased 18 gallons.

Local police saw the horde at the station and called store manager Andrea Reuland, who went to the station and pushed the emergency stop.

"There were cars two deep at each of my pumps," said Reuland, who knew many of the drivers and told them they were being dishonest — the main store sign had the correct price.

"I was very upset that there's that many dishonest people," she said. "They knew there was a problem, and they took advantage of an employee's mistake and I think that's terrible."

The employee, who has been there for about six months, had changed the gas prices 25 times in the past six months.

"It was an honest mistake," Reuland said. "I could have done it."

Area residents were still talking about it Friday morning.

"Was it you guys?" a woman in the station asked Reuland. "Why do I always miss the good stuff?"

It look like the person who did this article made a mistake with the PRICE too lollol.Or maybe it just rounding :/

This reminds me of years ago when all the farmers and a bunch of other people were pissed at the gas companies in england so they drove huge lorries around the m25 and other motorways really slowly and stopped oil tankers leaving the depot so that there was a massive gas shortage across most of the country.

there was panic buying and all the petrol stations were crammed with people trying to fill up barrells and pretty much anything they could find. i remember the bp station near my house had to get employees to guard the pumps to make sure people were only filling up their cars.

it was the stupidest thing ever.

Nah, that's typical of gas prices to have that extra 9 on the end, you can see it on the signs if you squint there's a tiny little 9. Which is why you hear people say, for instance, three twenty-nine nine. Kind of like how stores charge 1.99, 2.99, etc for something, it's a petty trick of the mind. People feel more inclined to buy something if the price appears cheaper, even though most people know that 2.99 is 3 dollars. 3.29 seems cheaper than 3.30, though gas price saying 3.29 is really 3.30.

umm the farmers just helped out the business didn't they?

Because of the gas shortage made by the farmers the petrol stations rose in cash..

I would have went with every single container i owned and more. I would spend maybe 800+. Imagine the savings.
Hell you could even sell it.
God I wish that happened here. 3.50 for gas!

well sort of but no petrol was getting out since they blocked up one of the depots and they were congesting all the motorways.

thats why there was a big panic, i think at one point there was even talk of the queen authorising the military to step in.

in the end they just got a bunch of soldiers to drive the petrol tankers and the protestors didnt do anything to stop them. the drivers were worried that they would be attacked by protestors but the protestors insisted they were just that... protesting. they said they never planned to harm anyone, they just wanted people to listen.

of course we at school thought it was great because if the coach company that drove us to school each day couldnt get petrol then we'd get some free time off school. unfortunately they had their own reservoir.
