I respect your opinion and acknowledge it as well. In terms of me agreeing with it, not so much. I do see where you're coming from with it being your money because it is (parents or yours).
And trust me I can get NX (don't get it twisted). I could "pimp" my character out as hard as anyone. But, still.....that's not the point. The real point in most of this was the advertisement techniques used to grab unsuspecting and unknowing youngsters by using underhanded tactics to sidestep the parents and get to the young ones. They seep that stuff into little kids minds so when they see a BestBuy they'll flock to it. Heck, in a study most kids were quized on who was the 1st president of the U.S. compared to the Hamburger burgler and Ronald McDonald.. Most if not all of them didn't know who the President of the U.S was but, most knew who Ronald McDonald was.. is any of that scary to you? I think its frightening. And please, I think I have a good idea of how advertising works. It was just the way MS did it that I found gave me a bad taste in my mouth. And I'm trying to explain the reason why I felt the way that I did. Read the previous posts. Gamers are competitive (all of them). If you think playing Maplestory doesn't have you competing with other users (in one way or another) then that is a naive thought. The cash shop Advertising is everywhere. Even if you don't want it. It's through your TV's Internet's Buses, Planes. Everyone wants you to buy their crap. I get solicitors calling me every hour and they won't leave me alone. Don't even get me started with this time of year. I just thought some people felt the same way about when it comes to videogames. I thought they took it too far. If you like being told what to buy, why, where and when (Through videogames!) then fine. But, not me. Videogames is like a place of escape. What's next books? I'm going to be reading Harry Potter and then an ad for Snickers is going to come up. Is that where we'll draw the line? Like I said at least in movies the stuff was subliminal ( a guy eating a Snickers) but, what MapleStory did was insulting. And people don't even buy a 100$ training set to get better at sports. They use steroids which costs money and probaby have better results. And really Kudos to the advertiment people. They found a way to make mountains of money off of people's ignorance (yet again). They're really smart and they really know how to get at them kids.

Oh get OVER yourself. You don't need ad-free games to "get away" Just ignore them or quit. Nexon dosn't need you to buy NX cash. They will try to get you to buy it, but if you don't they won't care.

Over myself? About me? No you've got it all wrong. This is bigger than you or me. This is bigger than all of us. Of course Nexon doesn't care. They don't care about anyone. As you can see. You think they gave 2 cents about what you thought when they put that store there? No.
They make oodles and oodles of cash each day off of us. They get more people to play and watch their ads than 2 superbowls combined. And yes Nexon needs you to buy their NX cash. It's what keeps them afloat. If enough people we're fed up with this then they would change. I beg to differ with ad-free games hindering yourself to enjoy an immersive environment. It just makes itself less immersive. |

With that aside It seems that all those "advertisements" are stores with Nx cash cards in them. So its only natural to advertise, also how effectively does this "sidestep" the parents. If i wanted to go to best buy to get something my mom would know about it, and heck im 16 too. This really is just a way to get Maplers to want to go to those stores and its probaly not really effective.
