Determination

Today I was playing one of my mmorpg's (in this case Maplestory) and I saw an NPC that looked like a sales woman from Best Buy. In fact, the Best Buy building was behind her in the game. It messed me up so much that I quit. It was rediculous. It felt like the game was trying to insult my intelligence. Best Buy? Really? What's that?

I know what Best Buy is, I know what they do and I think it's pretty low trying to advertise to these kids through games and side step the parents. Since the game is patched every month or so they can add new stuff. In the beggining the game was free (and still is) and there was extra stuff you could buy to make your character [look] cool. But, now it's not about cosmetics anymore. You can use the money to even get ahead in the game which I don't think is fair at all. You mean Jimmy who can't afford a (two times experience) card won't be able to catch up to Timmy who can? You can also use the money to purchase better items. The game feels more hollow than and less solid ever.

And the advertisement doesn't stop at mmorpg's, it spreads to other games too. Look at Madden NFL 08. Every time there is a toss up you see Snicker's (Most satisfying) Or if a player in the game is doing really well it'll say Snicker's most hungriest player. It feels like a cheap shot at my intelligence and like I'm being taken advantage of.

One thing I do know though. When I have kids I'll be sure to check the game out by playing it myself and seeing if I'm buying more than what is advertised.


I am certain that there will be more advertisment in videogames in the future.

This reminds me of how McDonalds advertised. They pretty much put all their focus on the kids so that the parenst would buy whats advertised through commercials and cartoons. (The toy that comes with every meal too)

I hope some game franchises keep their pride and don't sell out to this kinda thing. If anything I'll be taking points off of games that does that.

Maybe the government should tax it....for Maplestory at least

There is advertisements everywhere, on tv, on boards, in movies.

Advertisings in video game is the most logical thing the companies is aiming for.

So as long as the main goal of companies is to make money, there will be advertisements everywhere. In games its a matter of time before its more popular. Get used to it now.

You do know that Nexon gains a ton of money by advertising right? The stores that want to be advertised need to pay the company that's helping them advertise.

I personally don't really care if Maple Story advertises. So I see a Target here and there. If it doesn't affect my gameplay, I don't really care what Nexon does.

I haven't seen anyone anyone *****ing about the nonstop advertisement during the super bowl. Why maple?

Stop *****ing its a advertisement ffs. It's not there to screw with your mind. It's there to ADVERTISE so you can go and buy stuff from them. How else would they get customers? Shyt if I lived near you I'd grab a bunch of snickers and best buy signs and put them in your front yard.

Screw that, that gives me another reason not to buy stuff from best buy. I hardly every buy stuff from big known stores because they pay a hell lot for advertising and their location which makes their prices go up. I rather shop at smaller stores that arent as well known but have the same quality stuff just for less because they are less advertised and not such a big label.

Determ, I understand where you're coming from. I actually hate all the advertisements myself, but I do my best to shrug it off. Nexon needs to make money, as do the stores. They saw a chance to make money, and went for it. I am wondering why they'd advertise in a game thats played predominantly by teenagers, though. NX cards, I'm guessing?

Question time, now. What the hell does that NPC even sell?

You're really overreacting, advertisements are everywhere, are you really gonna get pissed at your TV for showing you a basketball ad?

another thing he said that i liked was the 2 exp cards..

i see people buying 2 exp cards and that DOES affect my gameplay because other people (preferably people who just got into the game) are passing those who worked hard up to their rank..

also gatchapon is killing my will to play because that makes people who cant afford NX COMPLETELY obslete unless they can afford the inflation that comes with the fact the item costs real money..

Everyone is complaining about 2xp gacha and everything. But im pretty sure if it was free you would abuse it.

Nexon needs to make money somehow to keep the game free for all those who want a free game.



Company => Goal = Make money

Maple Story = Free

Game Development = Cost Money

Maple Story - Game Development = Lost Money

So if you want to keep the game free and nexon wants to make money you must add something in the equation

Maple Story - Game Development + Cash Shop = Make Money = Goal = Company

Sure people will say "2xp is unfair...gacha is unfair" But on the point of view from a marketing sector, you must offer something to those who pay money. Its only fair to those who buy nx to get an advantage over those who dont. Dont forget, those who buy 2xp cards, gacha, smegas contribute to make the game free to the others. Im 100% sure nobody would give free money to nexon so they can continue to play with the same advantage of those who dont.

People should stop caring about their lil self and start looking at the whole situation. This is a GAME!!! Why do people care so much that other people are getting better then them faster? You should be happy for them. But no, you only care about yourself...me myself and i...if im not the best its not fair...Grow up life isnt fair for anybody.
