Hi All,
Playing ROHAN is fun but playing ROHAN with other people is even better! I am hoping to get more people playing ROHAN with the information in this post. Contents: 1. Translation / Translation 1.1 Downloading Translation Files 1.2 Installing the Translation Files 1.3 State of the Translation 1.4 Community Translation Project 1.4.1 How the files were initially translated 1.4.2 How to contribute 1.4.3 Downloading the Mapping Files 2. Playing on a Japanese Server 2.1 General Conduct 2.2 Japanese Phrases 3. List of ROHAN players 4. Signup Guide 4.1 Account Signup 4.1.1 Configuring your Browser 4.1.2 Signing up for an Account 4.1.3 Downloading the Client 4.1.4 Font Fix 4.2 Downloading the Client 5 FAQ 1 - Translation 1.1 - Downloading Translation Files Latest Build: Feb 14, 2008 Links to the current translation files can be found here: http://shinsei.yuku.com/topic/389 1.2 - Installing the Translation Files First unzip the files to a directory of your choice. 1) Start up the Rohan Launcher. Wait for it to finish its Full Checking of the files. 2) Copy the translated files over into \Rohan\Data\ Overwrite any files it asks to. 3) Press the start button on the start the game. You will have to repeat steps 1 - 3 each time you want to start the game. 1.3 - State of the Translation 100% Translated: Armor Names (armor.bin) Weapon Names (weapon.bin) Monster Names (monster.bin) Shield Names (shield.bin) Skill Names (skill.bin) Synthesis Stones (itemoption.bin) Scrolls (itemscroll.bin) Set Names (itemset.bin) Cosmetic Styles (style.bin) Google Translated: Game Text (text.bin) Miscelaneous Items (itemetc.bin) Potions (itempotion.bin) Skill Descriptions (skilllevel.bin) Sub-Regions (region.bin) Quests (quest.bin) Quest Items (itemquest.bin) NPC Names (npc.bin) Regions (room.bin) UI Text (uitext.bin) Pets (itempet.bin) Locations (portal.bin) Currently being translated: Fix up the Skill Descriptions Untranslated (In priority order): High Priority Accessories (itemaccessory.bin) Fix up the Quests Low Priority blackpoint.bin itembuffscroll.bin itemcharm.bin itemcostume.bin itemfish.bin itemopen.bin itemreset.bin itemriding.bin itemsiege.bin magicbox.bin magicdoor.bin siegenpcguard.bin statue.bin trap.bin Quests I cannot locate the files containing the NPC text and quest text. Instead, I am going to try to translate the Wiki (www.rohan.wikiwiki.jp) and create a quest guide that way. However, before I do that I will need to translate a couple more game files. In the meantime, please use Google Translator to read the following pages: Lvl 1 - 20: http://rohan.wikiwiki.jp/?cmd=read&p...%C120#rf584ed7 Lvl 21 - 30: http://rohan.wikiwiki.jp/?cmd=read&p...2FLv21%A1%C130 Lvl 31 - 40: http://rohan.wikiwiki.jp/?cmd=read&p...2FLv31%A1%C140 1.4 - Community Translation Project 1.4.1 - How the files were initially translated Initial translation of the ROHAN data files was done automatically using a computer program that I wrote. Certain data files contain the English text in them in some form or another and so the translation can be quickly obtained by formatting this text. In other cases, I simply had my program "ask" Google translator to translate the Japanese phrases for me. Due to this, you will find that a lot of the English text is translated in an odd way. 1.4.2 - How to contribute The program that performs the translations can read a "Mapping" file that maps Japanese phrases to English text. By altering this file, we can customize what text goes into the ROHAN data files during translation. I will make these mapping files public once I have completed most of the automated translation. In the meantime, if you see text that should be changed, please email the EXACT english text along with what the text should read to translate.rohan@gmail.com Example: Current Text: Alterness need: Translated Text: Dexterity needed: 1.4.3 - Downloading the Mapping Files - I will make the mapping files available once most of the automated translation has been completed - 2 - Playing on a Japanese Server 2.1 - General Conduct Since we are going to be guests on the Japanese servers, I think that we should try to be as courteous as possible and abide to their rules. Therefore I would like to ask the following: - No Hacking (Except for the language files) - No Cheating - No Botting - No Spamming - No Foul Language I also think that we should keep speaking in English in public chat to a minimum. I have heard instances where people get banned for speaking English and if we start having a large presence on the Japanese servers then we should probably be careful. I have also heard of instances where people have been caught in screenshots swearing and being jerks in general and who have been banned for it. So please let's try to remain respectful. 2.2 - Japanese Phrases I would like to collect a list of Japanese Phrases here that people feel would be useful to know. Please post any phrases that you feel should be added. In the event that you don't have the Japanese IME installed, you can copy and paste the Japanese from this section into the client. Hello - Konnichiha こんいちは Goodbye - Jyane / Matane じゃね/またね Thank You - Arigatou gozaimasu ありがとうございます Sorry - Gomennnasai ごめんなさい Please take care of me (used when you enter a party) - Yorosikuonegaisimasu よろしくおねがいします Thank you for your hard work (used when your party is finished) - Otukaresamadesita おつかれさまでした 3. - List of ROHAN players Please post your IGN and server so that we can all play together! I think that most English people are playing on Server 2. If you are having difficulties registering for ROHAN, please consult the other guides as they are more detailed. It seems that you need Opera to register for an account (BIG thanks to Moogle415 for figuring this out). If anyone finds a way to do this using IE, please post it here! 4.1.1 - Configuring your Browser You must download Opera in order to do this. Please go to http://www.opera.com/download/ and download the International Version. ![]() Start the installer and choose Japanese in the language options. ![]() 4.1.2 - Signing up for an account In Opera, go to www.rohan.jp and click on the following link: ![]() Fill in your Email details ![]() Check your email for an email from Rohan. Hi! The servers seem pretty stable and relatively lag free.
As for why people like it... Honestly, I haven't played it enough to discover all of the intricacies of the game but there seems to be a lot of stuff to do. The graphics are decent and the world is huge. There don't seem to be any game stopping bugs either. Leveling up is pretty easy and there seem to be plenty of quests. You can do stuff like guild battles, town battles and probably more things which I have no clue about haha. There is a type of crafting / upgrade system and plenty of money sinks so you have lots of stuff to work for. I think you can murder people and certain NPCs as well haha... Hope that helps! What is your IGN by the way KingAssassin? I will add it to the list

Hmm It should be instantaneous... I looked at the website again and perhaps disabling Javascript won't quite work... It actually registered without any problems for me and I'm just giving you the solution that my other friend had to use. Perhaps try re-enabling Javascript and changing the language settings on your browser to Japanese (as above) and then restarting your browser. See if that works. If it does I will change the guide appropriately.

Hmm... It's doing the same for me now when I try to access the page. I guess they changed something recently. My friend literally registered yesterday though so I'm not sure what is up with it. I will see if I can figure out a workaround.
OK! I have figured out how to do it. I have updated the guide now to reflect that : ) Basically, you have to download Firefox and set the browser language to Japanese. Please refer to the instructions above and let me know how it goes! hdwei - I sent the registration email to your account to test ; ) Last edited by Cpt.Guano!; 12-27-2007 at 02:13 PM. |
