I really want to try FFXI, because people constantly say it's good, even when it's repeatedly flamed. Is there any buddy keys or trials going on?

The closest thing i have seen to a f2p WoW is Perfect World, and WoW kind of got the ball rolling. Nothing in the F2P market has delivered on such a solid and perfect product as WoW.
I think a lot of people are also overlooking EQ2 which had a rough start when they released their game alongside WoW, but now the game is absolutely amazing. I saw you can get the client +30 day first month free for 6.99 at my local gamespot. Not bad.
FFXI is not for everyone. If you want to try it, do a google search with the name + trial and see what pops up. Google is your friend.
People have to remember that FFXI was made in japap, and the japanese are not quite yet accustomed to the MMORPG genre which is why FFXI is such a weird product. weird can be good or bad to some, but again it is confused as to what it wants to be.
