As some of you might have noticed a "war" is currently being "fought" on the Internet. This "war" is 'Anonymous' vs Scientology. 'Anonymous' have done some successful attacks at sites related to the "Church" of Scientology and a 'bounty' on some IP adresses related to the attacks was put up by the CoS. Now some of them are planning to demonstrate outside the "churches" at the 10th of February if I remember correctly.
Anyhow, this thread is not really supposed to be about the "war" itself but about Scientology. What are your thoughts about it? Do you even know anything about it? It was during the start of this "war" that I truly realized what Scientology is. Before I just thought it was some little organization who tried to make money. Now I know it's a big, rich organization craving more money and control over people. Recently here in Sweden, where Scientology is a lot less of an organization than in other countries such as the US and Germany, a man with relations to Scientology is suspected to have contacted several men through the Internet and then murdering them and/or threatening to kill them unless they give him money. He is currently in jail for one of the crimes. Anyway, do you guys have any experience with Scientology? |

I know a number of people who are children of members. Their parents are nutjobs and they hate it. There is virtualy noone outside of Scientology, that thinks of it as healthy or a real religion. Already its name is a joke, a made up pseudoword, that shows their tendency of making up their content and manipulate with set phrases. Last edited by Ronin; 01-26-2008 at 11:29 AM. |

A group of hackers calling itself “Anonymous” has hit the Church of Scientology’s Web site with an online attack. The attack was launched Jan. 19 by Anonymous, which is seeking media attention to help “save people from Scientology by reversing the brainwashing,” according to a Web page maintained by Anonymous (offline now). The attacks were spurred by the Church’s efforts to remove video of movie star Tom Cruise professing his admiration for the religion, according to an Anonymous video manifesto posted to Youtube. “For the good of your followers, for the good of mankind and for our own enjoyment, we shall proceed to expel you from the Internet and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form,” a creepy computerized voice states in the video. Anonymous followed up this dispatch with a second video blasting the media for failing to completely report the group’s criticisms of the church. This video was taken down Friday by Youtube, citing a “terms of use violation.”
Anonymous has managed to generate a measurable attack against the Scientology.org Web site. Over the past few days, the site was hit with several DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, which flooded it with as much as 220 Mbps of traffic, according to Jose Nazario, a senior security engineer with Arbor Networks, whose company compiles data on Internet attacks. The Anonymous campaign shows some level of organization. “220 Mbps is probably about in the middle of attack sizes,” Nazario said. “It’s not just one or two guys hanging out in the university dorms doing this.” On average, the attacks lasted about 30 minutes and used up 168 Mbps of bandwidth. In the past year, Arbor has seen attacks on other sites hit 40 Gbps, or 200 times the strength of the Anonymous event. |

the other day my roomate started going on about scientology and asking me if id seen the videos on youtube and heard about the underground hacker gang called anonymous. sigh.
scientology is a pile of shit for this reason: catholocism: based on the principle that the blessing of christ is passed down from bishop to bishop therefore maintaining a direct link to the original blessing of christ. scientology: based on the fantastical machinations of a science fiction author. Now thats only comparing it to catholicism. if you compare it to other major religions youll see that scientology is just as rediculous. now if you feel like rebuking this dont try to rationalise it by saying "yeah but religion cant prove anything anymore than scientology can so scientology has every right to be a 'religion' too" no because scientology doesnt have a mega huge *** history. scientology is the only religion where members have to pay to be a part of it, shouldnt faith be free? shount help be given freely? also: seaorg lol |

You need to establish a direct connection, or its as incriminating as to say, that he is a cellphone user and all celphone users are dangerous.
On topic: There will always people who buy stuff over shopping TV chanels and peope who join strange moovements. Its a freedom of speech and mind thing, until it can be prooven to be a danger. Scientology is not exactly worth our support, but we dont want to dictate peoples life and what they are allowd to do in their privacy. @Deimos: Every year, I get a letter asking me if I am still proceeding with my education, or if I am finished, so they can collect the church tax. There is no big diffrence between general religions and scientology. I do not think that any of us are able to draw a distinct line between a righteous blieve and and one that lacks. What is an issue is the manners of these communites members, which are with some sects very openly malign and with other sects not so openly malign or not at all. If they are out to harm the public, if they are antidemocratic and violent in their acts, or put forth any other simliar kind of outrageous behaviour, they will be put to a stop. Groups like these will likely drive their members into forsaking their former social contacts, including family; So will conservative chritian ones as well as islamic. Its tragic, but once again, you dont want the right to choose your own social environment be takne away form you as well. Last edited by Ronin; 01-26-2008 at 01:30 PM. |
