Tell us your budget first.
Stay away from Amd and Quad cores. AMD - It's old to say AMD is better in gaming. In every other aspect beside gaming, Intel has done a great job. Besides, AMD is getting old and their newest phenom sucks. Quad cores - YOU don't need quad core for gaming and there's absolutely no program in this world that needs Quad core to use it. Go for a good Dual Core and you're fine. A good dual core can run 10x porn while u're playing WoW so..... Mobo - Absolutely go for Asus. They are awesome and it's the best stuff you can get. ( Dont get Maximus Formula serie, it's a waste to get it now. You can't fully use it now....unless u're ***** rich ) CPU - If you're not working with your comp. Do not get Intel Xeon....get Core 2 Duo.

Icy is right Quad Core was a little too much, but thats only for hardcore players... So go with a very good Dual Core Intel...
The second thing was a Motherboard, the MSI, they are alright... Go for Asus or MSI |

Here's what I have picked out;
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059 Was a great option, very similar to the $200 one I picked out in most aspects, yet $100 cheaper. XP Pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116400 Didn't think it'd be that much, oh well. Hey, if I know people that build computers, and they have bought a OS in the past, does it only work once? Or could I load it onto my computer? CPU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...IN#detailspecs Guess a quad core is too much, anyone want to reccomend a very good dual core that's cheaper then that? Not only will that be good because it's all I need, but it'll help me reach my target price. I've got the other parts picked out as well, only one more question just to be on the safe side, Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150252 This will go into the mobo I chose right? On the title it says PCI-E, 2 x 16. Yet on the mobo it says 3 slots for PCI-E, yet only 1 for the 16. That a problem at all? I heard it's fine, and I could put three in if I wanted because there's room. |

Cpu - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0ghz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115028 Dont have much comment about videocard and mobo. It seems ok but again, Asus holds the best reputation for motherboards and their price are great. About the PCI-E, ur mobo will only hold ONE graphic card. Not more than that. Graphic card needs PCI-E x16 to make them work. Any other PCI-E will be for sound cards, PhyX, etcetc. Take note that your rams will eat about 100-200$ depending brand, speed and amount. I suggest Kingston for RAMS, and don't get HyperX series cuz they're just fancy rams with about 10% faster but 2x the price. You basically need 2gb only....anything above that is for people running tons of useless things. Like norton, music, download, video, word.....games...

I already chose RAM, and do I need 2 PCI-E 16 slots, or just one?
Also, here's my RAM; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098 Edit, what the heck? With that CPU I am paying more and dropping the quad core for a dual. That makes no sense.. Last edited by MrWafflez; 01-27-2008 at 04:54 PM. |

Wolfdale runs cooler, better overclocking capability, faster than Conroe, etc. Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 Review: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...olfdale_7.html Also, regarding the memory - if you ever decide to overclock it, you'd be better off with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146565
