Aakrana - The Forgotten Lands
Developement for Aakrana started back in around 2001.
The game was to, in the end, become a unique 3D MMORPG developed by indie developers. Anyone was welcomes to pitch in.
The game is still indevelopement and has recently switched its focus.
Now the game will become a MMO card game.
These two guys have practically been taking on the whole game themselves. For 7 years now they have been making this game and have come quite far.

While fine tuning on the engine continues and backend development solidifies the foundations of the 3D world development I have decided to take Aakrana in a new direction that is far more condusive to a one man show. I am adding a sidegame to Aakrana that is a card based combat arena akin to some of the major card playing fantasy games. The nature of this type of game is that it allows a very fast development cycle for the game interfaces while still taking advantage of some of the very powerful backend database and server code already built into the project.
Players have "decks" of cards that are associated with their account. These decks are comprised of up to 50 cards which are drawn from a pool of hundreds of unique cards each with their own powers, strengths and weaknesses. From their deck the player builds a playing "hand" which is comprised of a predetermined number of cards. For example, some areas of the world might be 5 card hand based, some of the more powerful areas of the world might be 10-13 card based. The concept here is that the larger the hand, the more in-depth and diverse the strategy possabilities are for both attacking and defending against your opponent.
Once a player has setup a "hand", they are able to interact with the world and take part in combat, quests and evolving the dynamic storyline. Every "battle" that the player fights earns them various resources which can be used to enhance their profile in the game, build structures(yes housing, towers, forges etc), craft powerful "item" and "spell" cards and join guilds where they can take part in community building and even the creation of villages and towns.
The initial card game currently in testing contains a deck of cards that make up four distinct types. Resource cards, item cards, creatures and "abilities"/spells. Every card has a resource requirement that must be met in order to bring that card into play. The combat resources are different and completely seperate from the players game resources. Combat resources are built up by the player every "turn" automatically and can be enhanced every turn by resource harvesting cards they play from their hand.
Currently their are five combat resources that players can draw on to play their cards. These resources start at 1piece of each and increase by 1 for every turn plus any additional resources gained from resource cards that are "in play". There are also plans for adding sabotage cards to the deck that would allow a player to attack his opponents resources and in some cases even steal small ammounts of an opponents resources to be used against him.
The goal of this game play is to marriage the entertaining aspects of a strategy based RTS with the rewards and community involvement of a standard MMO game. At this time ingame chat is configured to allow social interaction with your opponents and other players logged into the world. One of our short term goals is to expand that chat system to allow for private guild and localized area chat with other players in your portion of the world.
I am working on a system to integrate the 3D world into this 2D game so that you can actually watch spells being hurled, structures being destroyed and lands beign conqured in real time but I suspect fully integrating that into the platform is some months away.
Well that concludes this update. The client side coding for the 2d card game is at about 70% completed. The remaining 30% is waiting on the serverside code to be finished and that is where I'm currently focussing my time.
More news when it happens. All the best.

So you know this game isn't even in alpha yet, it's in developement. The programmer is doing everything himself so the GUI is not the finished version.
If there are any textual designers or any others artists who would like to jump in on this project, feel free to post on the forums but keep this in mind; The dev. isn't active on the forums much but he is constantly coding.
I thought I would post about this game because its promising. I have seen other ingame screen shots from the past and I cant wait.
