Default Best beginner MMO engine?

I want to make an MMORPG, but, seeing as the only games I've ever created were small Flash games, I have no clue where to start.

I need an easy beginner engine I guess to help me get the feel of it.

I have read the list at the top of the page and it doesn't really tell what is best for someone as nooby as me.

I don't really have much money at the moment so please only list free engines.

I have looked into Multiverse already but I don't have enough RAM to run it.

I would base your foundlings upon your foundations. Your hardware, software, and resource capacity will define how much you can excel your games development. It’s good you’re eager to try to make a game, but free will not come with easy, unless you decide to spend some money.

My personal choice is that realm crafter 2 will be a great eye candy capable, yet EASY to use tool. Chances are you will be spending money on an engine if you’re eager to get into game development. Now we can all understand the wallet issue ;p

I believe you should take an initiative to spend and invest just a little bit into something that could go a long ways for you, in this I will use games in development made by realm crafter.

Apoc-Online, they got interviewed by massive; the leader of that game might actually get a job from massive because his game was impressive.

Fact is it’s up to you how you decide to make your game look, be it a sloppy place down 40 trees and few buildings, or if it’s a neat thought out 50 trees on a trail and a pathway.

I truly believe if you invest for a beginning engine you would get a much more sufficient development. Other than this the game engines you will find that are free, are still either open source, require mass amounts of programming, scripting, and development and wont be free for to long.

My opinion is that you would do so much better going with an engine you can buy once and use forever.

I actually have looked into that, and I plan to get it, but I'm a bit too short on cash to do it at the moment so I'm looking for a temporary free one to toy with while I wait for the money to come.

Thanks for the suggestions Fire, I tried out VB but for some reason its not working, I'll check into the others later.

I added another engine to the list, and a help site.

Thanks.

I had completely forgotten about your suggestions earlier and downloaded this Eclipse engine from http://freemmorpgmaker.com/.

It works but thats about all I know so far, I haven't really gotten into it yet lol.

The realmcrafter engine is a decent engine.
Have you looked at the torque engine by garagegames.com.
Check out thegamecreators.com they have a nice set of tools.
Do you have a 3d modeling program. If so good, if not your going to need one.
blender ( blender.org ) is free but it's interface is a nightmare.
autocad 3d ( inivis.com ) is easy to use and very powerful for the price.
Anim8tor is free also but very limited.
googles sketchup free is decent enough but you will need a converter to be able to make use of the files it outputs it only saves and exports in Kmz.
Also what are your system specs so that I can help you more.
I am currently building an mmorpg much as you want to mine hopefully will be finished aside from updates by early 2009.
