Here is some info on Eastern Promise expansion for LoH, taken from Decius

---------------------
The Forlorn Games team is very proud to announce the title and summary of the third expansion pack for our successful persistent browser based game “Lands of Hope”, this third expansion will be called Eastern Promise and will combine ancient mythology/fact and fiction from a number of Asian countries. As well as one new realm this expansion pack will provide a new playable class based around a Ninja and also Dragon Spirits.

The Eastern Promise realm will comprise of 5 territorial areas, each area controlled by a flight of dragons your actions and choices will determine which flight you are permitted to join and your character will undergo a number of changes once you have joined a flight, you will be able to unleash your Dragon Spirit to change into a Dragon for combat and travel, once in Dragon Spirit form your combat options will be tailored to suit the specific flight you belong to, this means your Dragon Spirit choice will determine what options are available to you in combat.

As you increase your standing with your flight you will unlock new abilities and powers for use in combat and become a more formidable foe, of course you can decide when to use your Dragon Spirit form and when not to so you only remain a Dragon for as long as you want!

This expansion is scheduled for release Q4 2008.

Many people need the kind of structure the tutorial provides to help them get started, without a tutorial of any kind I am sure there would be far less people willing to play the game because then you really would be thrown in at the deep end.

As far as the comments about boring go, each to their own. I have played all of the major MMO's and they get boring too ... truth is every game gets boring. This game is not for everyone, it does often require a lot of thinking and it probably is not as simple as some games that you can pick up and play right away but for those who do take the time to learn the basics they have a very good time.

It's not that it's rare, it's just the fact that one one class line offers it and only like 3 or 4 people have bothered to reach the final tier (lv 650) profession to learn the skill naturally. And it doesn't help that that only one of them is semi-active.

First time through, I found it pretty fun, but after the second or third run and knowing what to expect, it gets dull. Of course, most tutorials are dull (but necessary) to begin with.

Oh and Decius has set the date for the Eastern Promise expansion for release to be July 1st, 2008 now, instead of later into the year.

It also requires a lot of reading too. Although there are a lot of graphics in the game, there is also a lot of text to read. But it's not all mushed together so you have to spend 5 or 10 minutes reading it to continue on. And I'll agree with Mr. Cookie lover here, most people who get through the tutorial do come to enjoy the game.

By the way, the smilies here are absolutely retarded.

My guess is that a minority of the players that make an account actually get through the tutorial without quitting. We get a lot of users who dont like to read or get annoyed and quit because it's nothing like Runescape (which we get a lot of newbie users from unfortunately). And it's not like it's hard or anything, people are just too lazy to take the time to learn how to do or play something. They want others to do it for them, which IMO, is sad.

But we still have a pretty big and active userbase, regardless.

I feel like a tutorial should be like a last resort, especially on a well-worn genre like an RPG where players should generally be able to understand what's going on pretty quickly. The game should be self-explanatory.

Looks cool, thanks for the post!
